Flow Transmitters handle corrosive fluids.

Press Release Summary:

Made with CPVC or PVC wetted parts, P420 Series is suited for use in corrosive fluids, water, brine, and low-viscosity fluids. Vortex shedding flow rate transmitters have no moving parts that can stick, bind, or coat. Models with CPVC body can transmit hot water or other fluid with max operating temperature of 180°F, compared to max of 140°F for PVC models. Available in ½, ¾, 1, 1½, and 2 in. pipe diameters, transmitters offer flow range of 12-200 gpm.

CPVC Flow Transmitters for Higher-Temperature Water and Corrosives

Universal Flow Monitors, Inc. introduces vortex shedding flow rate transmitters of chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) for greater heat resistance in processing corrosive fluids, water, brine and low-viscosity fluids in water treatment, chemical and desalination applications.

Universal Flow Monitors' P420 Series of cost-effective plastic flowmeters now includes models with wetted parts entirely of either CPVC or PVC (polyvinyl chloride). The expanded product line provides a wider selection of inexpensive flow rate transmitters without moving parts that can stick, bind or coat when processing water or corrosives.

P420 vortex shedding meters with CPVC body, sensor and bluff can transmit hot water or other fluid with maximum operating temperature of 180 degrees F, compared to maximum 140 degrees F with PVC units. CPVC transmitters can accommodate higher maximum operating pressures than PVC units at temperatures of 80 to 180 degrees F.

Universal Flow Monitors offers both CPVC and PVC units in five pipe diameters providing a flow range from 12 to 200 gallons per minute (4.5 to 750 liters per minute). The pipe sizes with their full-scale flow rates are as follows: 1/2 inch ( 1.2 to 12 GPM, 4.5 to 45 LPM), 3/4 inch (2.5 to 25 GPM, 9.5 to 95 LPM), 1 inch (5 to 50 GPM, 19 to 190 LPM), 1-1/2 inches (10 to 100 GPM, 38 to 380 LPM) and 2 inches (20 to 200 GPM, 75 to 750 LPM).

The meters with CPVC wetted parts can transmit low-viscosity, PVC-compatible fluids that may contain particles. P420 Series CPVC and PVC transmitters are electronic instruments that, unlike mechanical switches, eliminate potential for clogging.

P420 Series flow transmitters from Universal Flow Monitors are offered at the same low cost as paddlewheel meters without the added costs of periodic replacement of paddlewheels. The models with PVC parts start at $325 (U.S.) list price. CPVC models with chlorinated parts for higher heat resistance are priced 30 percent to 50 percent higher, depending on pipe size.

P420 vortex shedding flow transmitters have no o-ring seals. Connection is made by either solvent welding the PVC or CPVC pipe into the socket port provided or by NPT threaded connection.

Electronic output is from a 4-20 mA two-wire transmitter rated Intrinsically Safe when used with barriers. The electronics package is totally potted and not vulnerable to shorting, corrosion, leaks, humidity or condensate from conduits or thermal cycling.
Product literature for the P420 flow rate transmitter is available on the Universal Flow Monitors website, www.flowmeters.com, by scrolling to "The Non-Paddlewheel OEM Meter" on the homepage.
