NetScout Expands into Network Forensic Analysis with nGenius Flow Recorder

New Product Delivers Extended Payload Recording and Analysis

WESTFORD, Mass., Dec. 20 -- NetScout Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTCT), a leading provider of enterprise-wide network and application performance management products and solutions, today unveiled new forensic and audit trail capabilities with the nGenius(R) Flow Recorder, a security- hardened, Linux-based appliance that provides high-performance recording and analysis of network traffic. Deployed as part of NetScout's nGenius(R) System product family, the nGenius Flow Recorder complements NetScout's existing enterprise-wide performance management with advanced analysis of extended, continuous full-payload trace recordings.

One of NetScout's first customers using the new product is Hamburger Sparkasse, the largest savings bank in Germany with over 200 branches across Hamburg and the surrounding region. Hamburger Sparkasse is using the nGenius Flow Recorder to record and analyze voice and data streams in their corporate local and wide area networks.

NetScout's nGenius(R) Solution offers the broadest data collection and analysis capabilities delivered under a unified network and application performance management architecture. The nGenius Flow Recorder extends the nGenius Solution's troubleshooting capabilities to help customers reconstruct events where extended recording and analysis of full packet payloads is needed to diagnose intermittent traffic problems. The payload recording capabilities also support emerging requirements such as application profiling, policy compliance auditing, and transaction reconstruction.

Highlights of the nGenius Flow Recorder include:

o Application reconstruction and playback for transaction-level troubleshooting and compliance monitoring of IP voice and Web application sessions;

o Proactive scanning of recorded traffic using signature analysis, protocol semantic analysis and traffic pattern analysis to identify problems in network and application activity;

o Analyses and audits of traffic filtered by logical network definitions such as VLANs, DLCIs and PVCs;

o Open architecture that provides trace export for processing by external applications such as intrusion detection systems or protocol analyzers;

o Cost-effective configuration options for covering multiple switch ports and/or LAN/WAN network links with a single appliance;

o Up to 2.8 Terabytes of internal trace data storage, with a dual-port SAN interface option for further capacity.

The nGenius Flow Recorder offers many unique features that are not available in any current offerings in the market, including the broadest range of topology support for recording and playback of traffic from WAN links (POS, ATM, HSSI, T1/E1, T3/E3, etc.) and load shared 10/100/1000 LAN links, filtering of noise from the recorded data, and quick graphical drilldowns and reports of problem domains for needle-in-the-haystack analysis. It can also be used for extended recording and analysis of flow conversation records, such as NetFlow, when used in conjunction with nGenius(R) Probes or NetScout's recently announced nGenius(R) Flow Collector.

"This introduction marks an important evolution in NetScout's offerings, adding our first dedicated product for advanced, payload-based analysis," said Michael Szabados, senior vice president of product operations for NetScout Systems. "The nGenius Flow Recorder will help our customers deal with increased accountability and auditing demands and the always-present need to minimize restoration time for critical applications and network links. As such, this new product represents a strong complement to our existing enterprise-wide performance management offerings."
