Compact Flow Cytometer Delivers Full Analysis Capabilities; CytoFLEX* from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences Offers High-Resolution Detection of Fluorescence, Nanopoarticles

INDIANAPOLIS — Surpassing the performance expectations of full-size, top-line analyzers, the CytoFLEX flow cytometer (www.cytoflexflow.com) from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences delivers high sensitivity and resolution for excellent fluorescence and nanoparticle detection.

Fitting in a 16-inch square bench space and weighing just 50 pounds, the new instrument offers up to 21 configurations, from basic setup to a multi-color, multi-laser sophisticated analyzer. Patent-pending optical design optimizes excitation and light collection efficiency from up to three lasers (405, 488 and 638 nm). A Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) detection module (also patent-pending) features a bandpass-only design that enables various configurations from four to 13 colors and easily changeable optical filters.

“Our system changes the compact cytometer paradigm by delivering superior performance in a wide range of configurations and by exceeding expectations in lab applications ranging from basic to complex,” said Sharlene Wright, senior manager at Beckman Coulter Flow Cytometry in discussing CytoFLEX. “The system offers labs the ability to expand into new research areas using side scatter off the violet laser for enhanced nanoparticle detection.”

CytExpert software, included in the system, incorporates intuitive workflow and novel tools to facilitate complex flow cytometric application setup. The software’s experiment-based workspace design combines with a unique compensation library to allow both novice and inexperienced users to set up high color applications easily.  The compensation library allows compensation to be performed virtually, negating the need to run a number of individual tubes to compile the matrix, saving both time and the cost of the excess reagents. Flexible analysis templates offer dot, density, pseudo, contour, histogram and overlay plotting.

Built-in upgradability makes adapting to changing needs affordable. Any specific configuration can be upgraded in less than a day.

The numerous innovations incorporated in the CytoFLEX flow cytometer make it easier to use, more powerful and more productive than its competitors.  Additionally, with its compact reliable design, CytoFLEX uses smaller sample sizes, fits into any research lab and is very easy to maintain.
