Flexible Tapping Tool is designed for machining cast iron.

Press Release Summary:

Number of flutes on CoroTap™ 100 – KM reduces force on each cutting edge, and flute shape helps produce thin and small chips to solve chip breaking issues in machining cast iron/steel materials with 150–190 HB hardness. Back chamfer lets tap thread deeply while reducing torque and chipping. Also, thread and chamfer relief reduce contact between tap and component. D210 grade, combination of powder steel substrate and titanium aluminum nitride with multi-layer coating, promotes wear resistance.

A Tap that Makes a Difference in Cast Iron Machining

Sandvik Coromant unveils CoroTap™ 100 – KM

Sandvik Coromant has launched a new tap for machining cast iron. Designed to maximize productivity, CoroTap™ 100 – KM features the latest cutting edge technology and offers excellent results and process security.

This flexible tapping tool is gives high performance in all types of cast iron machining. With an increased number of flutes, it reduces the force on each cutting edge. The new flute shape helps to produce thin and small chips to solve common chip breaking issues found in cast iron machining, as well as in steel materials with hardness between 150 and 190 HB. A back chamfer has been added to let the tap thread deeper while reducing torque and chipping. In addition, the thread and chamfer relief is optimized to reduce contact between the tap and the component and the new D210 grade makes this tap even more wear resistant.

New grade provides excellent wear resistance

The new D210 grade is a combination of powder steel substrate with high hardness and titanium aluminium nitride with a multi-layer coating that has a very smooth surface. This combination provides excellent wear resistance in dry and wet machining, and minimizes the need for coolant.

When tested against a competitor product, CoroTap 100-KM showed outstanding machining results, a secure process and a 70% longer tool life.
