Flexible Electrical Tape has 155°C operating temperature.

Press Release Summary:

Heat-resistant 61 and 61A Varnished Dacron Glass tapes are manufactured by impregnating Dacron® and glass woven fabric with electrical insulating varnish. Thermosetting acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive is applied to one side of 61A tape, allowing it to stick even under high-heat conditions. Available in ¾ in. x 60 ft or 1½ in. x 108 ft sizes, tapes conform tightly to irregular shapes and surfaces and feature dielectric strength of 1,300 V/mil.

Plymouth Electrical Tape's Varnished Dacron Glass Tape Takes the Heat

The 61 and 61A electrical tape retains dielectric strength on heat aging...

CANTON, MA (April 23, 2004) - Providing electricians with a heat-resistant alternative to varnished cambric tape, Plymouth, a leading supplier of electrical tapes, has developed a new tape product, designated the 61 and 61A Varnished Dacron Glass tapes. This tape replaces Plymouth's 60 and 60A varnished cambric tape.

The new tapes are manufactured by impregnating Dacron® and glass woven fabric with a high quality electrical insulating varnish. The 61A tape features a thermosetting acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive applied to one side allowing it to stick even under high heat conditions. These tapes have excellent flexibility and conform tightly to irregular shapes and surfaces.

"This special purpose tape exceeds all the physical, chemical, and electrical attributes of its predecessor, the bias cut varnished cambric tape which is no longer commercially available. The operating temperature of the 61and 61A tape is 155° C whereas the varnished cambric tape was limited to 105°C," said Paul Neuger, Plymouth's Director of Sales and Marketing. "Redesigning this product enabled us to make several other improvements on the old design," he added.

The tapes are available in two sizes: 3/4 in. x 60 ft. or 1 1/2 in. x 108 ft. with custom sizes available upon request. With an exceptionally high dielectric strength that is retained on heat aging, the 61 and 61A tapes meet industry requirements for Class F insulation. They exhibit tensile strength of 40 lb./in. with 2.5% elongation at 10 lbs. and 6.0% at 15 lbs. with a dielectric strength of 1300v/mil (all testing to ASTM-D-902 standard). The tape's operating temperature is 155° C, with an emergency overload temperature of 185° C. Both the 61 and 61A tapes are recommended for use in motor coils, lead wires, layer insulation in small transformers, and electrical maintenance work.
