Fleetguard® Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) System Receives Conditional EPA Verification for Reduced Emissions

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-(May 18, 2007)-Cummins Filtration, the leader in filtration, exhaust, coolant and chemical technology for all engine-powered systems, has received notification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that its Fleetguard® Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) system has been conditionally verified. The system reduces emissions of certain criteria pollutants when used with Cummins Emission Solutions Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuel. The verification is for the purposes of EPA's National Clean Diesel Campaign.

"The combined CCV and DOC is the latest release in our retrofit product line. This product helps ensure customers and agencies have an even wider choice of options with Cummins Emission Solutions," said Les Freeman, Executive Director of Cummins Emission Solutions Retrofit.

Along with the DOC, the Fleetguard® CCV system was tested under EPA's Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) program. The May 10 verification was issued with specific conditions for additional testing and emissions durability on certain model year engines before final approval. Before product release, the system was tested with 3 million-plus miles of real world on-road validation. This technology is for use on all four-cycle, non-EGR highway, medium-heavy and heavy-heavy duty diesel engines, including turbo-charged or naturally aspirated, mechanically or electronically injected, and manufactured between the 1991-2003 model years. These engines must meet a 5 or 4 g/bhp-hr NOx standard and a 0.25 or 0.1 g/bhp-hr PM standard that were not originally certified with a DOC and not built with a CCV system. Verification details will soon be listed on the EPA's Verified Retrofit Technologies page under both Cummins Filtration and Cummins Emission Solutions.

"This is a giant step forward in the process of receiving full EPA verification," said Cindy Moore, Vice President and General Manager for the Air Technology Business Unit of Cummins Filtration. "We have worked very hard to ensure that the CCV system delivers on its promise to significantly lower PM, HC, and CO emissions and complies with government regulations to ensure a cleaner environment. We are proud to receive conditional verification as we continue our in-use testing program."
