Big Cat(TM) High Performance Flap Discs by Weiler
Weiler's Big Cat(TM) abrasive flap discs are designed for applications where long life and conformity are needed. Big Cat's last 30-40% longer than standard flap discs, and, due to their thickness and larger flaps, conform to curved and irregular surfaces. The high density Type 27 configuration adds flexibility for smoother grinding action and also lowers operator fatigue. Typical applications for Big Cat flap discs include weld blending, grinding, deburring, deflashing, stock removal, surface finishing and blending, and edge chamfering.
As you can see from the photo, blending welds on metal counter tops and tables requires a good deal of skill and craftsmanship to product attractive results. One manufacturer of these products has traditionally used resin fiber discs to perform this application. By switching to Weiler's Big Cat abrasive flap disc, their operators were able to produce more consistent results from piece to piece. The same high cut rate and quality of finish are maintained throughout the life of flap discs because the multiple layers of coated abrasive material expose sharp, fresh grains as they slowly wear away. The enhanced conformability of the Big Cat abrasive flap disc also helped to reduce gouging and undercutting of the counter tops. In addition to producing a better quality product, the end user was able to increase productivity and reduce operating costs due to the long life offered by the Big Cat.
