Flame-Retardant and Heat-Stabilized/UV-Resistant Ty-Rap® Cable Ties Meet Railway Industry Safety Requirements


MEMPHIS, Tenn., – Flame-retardant and heat-stabilized/ultraviolet (UV)-resistant Ty-Rap® cable ties from Thomas Betts (TB) meet current, applicable safety requirements of the railway industry, including National Fire Protection Association NFPA130: Standard for Fixed Guideway Transit and Passenger Systems.



Ty-Rap® Flame-Retardant and Ty-Rap® Heat-Stabilized/UV-Resistant Cable Ties, both made of halogen- and silicon-free polyamide 6.6 with a locking barb made of 316 stainless steel, have been tested to American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards E162 for surface flammability, E662 for smoke density and E1354 for heat and visible smoke release. They also have been tested to Boeing and Bombardier standards for combustion-generated toxic gas. Other tests include those for fire behavior in accordance to European EN 45545-2 and French NFF 16-101 standards for railway applications.

Ty-Rap® Flame-Retardant Cable Ties meet the UL94V-0 flammability rating, making them ideal for public areas where evacuation is a concern. They also offer chemical resistance and low smoke density, and are for use in temperatures ranging from minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 20 degrees Celsius) to 149 degrees Fahrenheit (65 degrees Celsius).



Ty-Rap® Heat Stabilized/UV-Resistant Cable Ties combine high-temperature and UV-resistant properties in one nonmetallic cable tie with the convenience and economy of Ty-Rap® cable tie design. They meet the UL94V-2 flammability rating. Their temperature range is minus 76 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 60 degrees Celsius) to 221 degrees Fahrenheit (105 degrees Celsius).



As Ty-Rap® Cable Ties, both models feature smooth, rounded edges to eliminate pressure points and sharp edges; solid bodies without notches to eliminate stress within the cable tie; and ribbed, stippled surfaces to prevent the cable tie from slipping under vibration and extreme shock.
