FKI Logistex UniSort XV Sliding Shoe Sorter Achieves World-Leading Throughputs

Research and development at the Technology & Education Center results in system throughput rates of up to 400 cartons per minute

(ST. LOUIS: Jan. 24, 2008) FKI Logistex® (www.fkilogistex.com), a global leader in integrated material handling solutions, announces that its UniSort® XV sliding shoe sorter has achieved throughput rates of up to 400 cartons per minute, making it the highest throughput sliding shoe sorter available today. On display at the FKI Logistex Technology & Education Center(TM) (TEC) in Cincinnati, Ohio, the sortation system uses the company's advanced UniSort MXT(TM) software and vhswEDGE(TM) merging technologies to increase system throughput without increasing speed.

As a result of current economic uncertainty, companies may be looking for ways to maximize their current distribution infrastructures to avoid investing in new facilities. While the most common method of expanding material handling system capacity is to replace aging equipment with new equipment operating at higher speeds, FKI Logistex offers a more economical solution to increase throughput and minimize system downtime.

Developed at the TEC, the latest FKI Logistex sortation technology can boost system capacity without major equipment changes, allowing distribution operations to increase the capacity of their existing systems and eliminate the need for a new distribution center or an additional shift.

"The UniSort XV system sets a new benchmark for the material handling industry," said Stephen Legg, director, product and technology development, FKI Logistex. "This important milestone is part of a continuing strategy to use the Technology & Education Center to test, develop and showcase the latest systems and equipment developed by our global team of engineers."

Since the grand opening of the TEC on July 17, more than 80 companies have toured the facility, learned more about the company's latest systems and equipment, and experienced software and controls demonstrations, including recent additions to the Warehouse Software Suite(TM) warehouse control system. Future plans for the TEC include the addition of the company's new case conveyor product line, due out in the spring of 2008.
