FKI Logistex Enters Norwegian Market with Contract Win from Trondheim Public Library

Norway's third largest library selects FKI Logistex technology solutions to improve ergonomics and customer service

Date: 01/03/2008

Underlining its leading global expertise in end-to-end library technologies, the Library Solutions Division of FKI Logistex® has realised its strategy of expanding its presence in Norway by winning an order from Trondheim Public Library. The country's third largest library, Trondheim handles more than 1,250,000 visitors and a circulation of some 1,100,000 items each year.

"We are committed to providing solutions to fit the libraries needs" says Ove Holm, Scandinavian Sales Manager for FKI Logistex. "We are in a unique position to help introduce technologies and processes that have been improved through implementation in libraries worldwide".

In a move to improve its ergonomics and customer service, the Library is installing two FKI Logistex Library Mate® automated self-service check-in units, Staff Inductions, and a MiniSorter® with 25 discharges. This prestigious contract, due for completion by April 2008, includes the supply of "Ergo Cart®" and "Ergo Volume®" Containers - all handling and sorting a wide range of materials such as books, CDs, DVDs and magazines.

Trondheim Public Library currently has self-service check-out units but book returns have been handled manually. This process will now be handled by the new FKI Logistex system. The well proven, FKI Logistex Library Mate check-in unit is designed to handle more than 99 per cent of the library's material flow and significantly speeds up the process of returning items back into circulation.

The MiniSorter eliminates repetitive tasks and helps librarians free up time to concentrate on helping customers. This compact unit requires little floor space and its modular construction allows the system to be easily expanded, re-configured and moved with minimal trouble and cost.

The FKI Logistex Ergo Carts greatly reduce the time and effort involved in re-shelving. The carts also significantly boost library throughput efficiencies by making it possible to sort books with all spines oriented into the read position, ensuring fast, trouble-free shelf location and reshelving. For ease of use, the book stacks can be tilted electronically into a horizontal position at waist height.

Barn Tore Nyland from Trondheim Public Library says: "We very much look forward to the installation of the new FKI Logistex systems. Undertaking what we see as a long term relationship, the company has shown a high level of professionalism and the commitment needed to ensure we select the right technologies to provide the effective overall solution to improve our library's efficiencies and customer service."

The FKI Logistex Library Solutions Division is fully geared to operate as a total project integrator taking full responsibility for specifying, installing and commissioning all FKI Logistex and third party products and services involved in delivering a contract.

Founded in 1902, Trondheim Public Library incorporates a main downtown library and five city branches. It offers a wide range of services, from lending books, films and music to a reading lounge. The modernisation of the library started in 1988 with the opening of a spacious new main library building in Trondheim centre. The library's main complex also includes an elegantly restored 1712 town hall and a 200-year-old merchant building.
