First Extruder of the New TwinEX Series in Operation at Roplasto

New twin-screw extruder series from battenfeld-cincinnati impresses profile producer with its easy operation and high performance

First extruder of the new twinEX series in operation at Roplasto

Roplasto Systemtechnik GmbH & Co. KG, based in Bergisch-Gladbach, Germany, specializing in just-in-time production of complete customized window profile systems, has now been operating a twinEX 93-34 D extruder from battenfeld-cincinnati, Bad Oeynhausen/Vienna for about five months. The profile manufacturer was the first company to purchase a twin-screw extruder from battenfeld-cincinnati's new twinEX series and is very satisfied with its performance. "Since its start-up in January, the extruder has been operating in a twin-strand main window profile extrusion line and has been running perfectly all along", Romeo Kovac, the company's Managing Director, is pleased to note.

The company, which produces a great variety of hard PVC profiles for modern building construction on a total of 30 extrusion lines, made a deliberate choice to purchase the twinEX 93-34 D parallel twin-screw extruder. "We really welcomed the merger of Battenfeld with Cincinnati and were eager to see whether the new extruder would actually turn out to be a 'best-of-two' appliance", Kovac explains and then adds, "and we have not been disappointed. Especially the extended processing unit, the easy access to all components and the intuitive operation constitute an improvement and have all proved their worth in our daily production."

Compared to the predecessor series of both machine manufacturers, the first extruder series jointly developed after the merger in 2010 features a 14% increase in performance. Here, the main contributing factors are the processing unit, which has been extended to 34 D, and the new four-shaft drive. This currently most powerful drive unit combined with an AC motor yields a high torque and consequently a high output.

The quality of the melt has also been further improved. The longer pre-heating zone in the processing unit ensures even heating and gentle treatment of the material with reduced energy input. Moreover, the basic all-purpose screw with self-optimizing Intracool core tempering and insulated barrel with the proven apc (air power cooling) system has been optimized once more to meet the customer's specific processing requirements. In spite of the longer processing unit, the extruder does not require more space though, since the drive unit is mounted in U configuration. Thanks to its compact design, the extruder is easily accessible, quick-release locking mechanisms allow fast and simple servicing, and the control terminal with a large, intuitive touch screen display facilitates operation.

Roplasto is a member of the Besagroup, based in Germany, which specializes in profile production for the building industry and is headquartered in Borken. The PVC processor supplies a great variety of profiles for all fields of application to some 500 customers, of which 70% are located outside Germany. The range includes window profile systems with 80 mm installation depth for passive houses, plastics profiles which look like aluminum profiles thanks to an aluminum clip, but have the good insulating properties of plastics, and various door and window profiles in all colors for modernization projects in Eastern and Western Europe. To enable use of the profiles also in countries with an extremely hot climate, Roplasto uses cool color lamination. White profiles from Bergisch-Gladbach have a 97% degree of whiteness and do not yellow. Thanks to the company's alignment to its customers' demands and the currently stable market in the profile sector, Roplasto is at present on course for growth.
