Original Press Release:
Adaptor Enables Backpack to Be Used for Chimney Fires
Reducing mess, minimising the potential for water damage and improving access, are the important features of a new adaptor fitted to BETE flexible back pack fire extinguishers manufactured by GUARANY. The adaptor, which enables the extinguishers to be used for chimney fires, simply screws onto the normal nozzle end of the pump action sprayer converting it to a male connector that will fit a standard quick-release, female hose connector.
The BETE flexible back pack fire extinguisher is a proven and effective device used by many of the UK's fire brigades and this upgrade extends the versatility of this already very useful piece of equipment. They are commonly deployed for a variety of bush and scrub fire fighting situations and have become a standard piece of kit in the fire fighters armoury.
Whilst the chimney fire adaptor will not revolutionise fire fighting, it does provide a viable alternative to stirrup pumps and the traditional hose reel adaptors currently used for tackling chimney fires. The chimney fire nozzle and hose can be deployed in the normal way with the back pack and hand pump to feed them, helping to reduce mess and the potential for water damage. Furthermore, as chimney fires generally occur in winter, it allows for easier access to rural dwellings where weather conditions may impede hose reel access.
The adaptor has been developed at the request of the Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service, and following successful testing is now available to all existing flexible back pack customers.
