Siemens Offers First 1/16-Watt Speaker for Fire Alarm Applications
Florham Park, N.J., Jan. 3, 2003 -- The newest notification appliance from the Fire Safety Division of Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. is a 1/16- to 4-watt speaker with integrated multi-candela strobe light on a metal grill. This compact, highly efficient unit is the first 1/16-watt speaker ever offered for fire-alarm use. Its 1/16 wattage will produce a sound level of 77.1 dB.
The speaker/strobe is designed to operate using half the power of conventional speakers. For emergency evacuation, it projects announcements with exceptional clarity and volume.
The Siemens S-HPMG-MCS (Speaker-High Profile-Multi-Candela Strobe) offers field selectable audio power taps ranging from 1/16 to 4 watts, with a frequency range of 400 to 4,000 Hz. Available for wall or ceiling mounting, the speaker is UL 1480 and UL 1971 listed, CSFM and MEA approved, and complies with ADA, NFPA and ANSI guidelines.
The strobe component offers a choice of field-selectable candela values: 15/75, 30/75, 75 and 110. The strobe operates via a Xenon flashtube with ultra-reliable solid-state circuit protected by a clear polycarbonate dome lens.
The compact units mount with standard 4" back boxes with extension ring or surface boxes, and project about 3", including strobe, from the wall or ceiling. Shipping weight is approximately 2.75 lbs.
