NEW 12-Axis CNC Finishing Technology

Cuyahoga Falls, OH - Ultra Tech Machinery introduces a new line of CNC finishing systems suited for hi-production operations.

The equipment that was built at their Northeast Ohio facility will be utilized to polish up to 24-inch diameter by 14-inch wide aluminum wheels. This is the first true 12-axis CNC system to be developed for finishing applications. The equipment incorporates numerous new design features to optimize the finish, reduce set-up and programming time, and provide maximum flexibility in part configurations.

Although this system was developed to polish wheels, the technology and modular equipment design lends itself to any hi-production finishing operation, from appliances to cookware.

The team of applications engineers responsible for the development of this new technology was given the task to design a system that optimized the part finish for virtually any part configuration. They accomplished this through the development of a proprietary "adjust-on-the-fly" technology that continuously adapts to each part being finished. This allows automatic processing of parts with minor variations to the same consistency. It also makes programming each station simple and forgiving. The flexibility of the system comes from the rugged buffing head design with adjustable head angle, variable speed buffing spindles, and closed loop positioning.

At the heart of the equipment is an operator friendly control system that allows CNC programming changes to be made at the touch of a button and saved for each set-up. Although highly responsive and flexible, the control system does not require finishing operators with experience in CNC programming or robotics.

Another robust component on the system is the reinforced steel 8-station main index table. It includes independently adjustable table speed, bi-directional operation, an automatic part clamping system, and an integral table locking system. In addition to the finishing equipment, Ultra Tech also provides fully enclosed guarding and optional robotic loading automation.

Ultra Tech possesses over 20 years experience designing and building polishing and buffing systems for continuous operations. Being a QS 9000 with T&E supplement and ISO 9001 certified company, Ultra Tech is known for engineering comprehensive solutions. They manufacture a wide range of equipment designs that include: finishing systems, multi axis CNC slide modules; vertical turning centers; and flow forming machines.

Ultra Tech offers literature that further explains the technology incorporated into this new polishing system, along with available options, and engineering and quality standards to which the units are built.
