Original Press Release:

New Elsner Filter Membrane Folder

The new EMF-42 folding machine from Elsner Engineering Works, Inc., takes production of filter membranes for reverse osmosis filters to a new level. Previously, most of the production work was done by hand on these filters which are used to make brackish water and sea water potable.

The Elsner EMF-42 automates the process. It combines the membrane filter material with a scrim material and folds it for use in the filters. Differing quantifies of the folded membranes are used to make a complete filter. The machine unwinds, cuts to length, adheres the scrim to the membrane, folds and discharges the products in different sizes and quantities. Sizes range up to 42" wide x 96" long.

In developing the EMF-42, Elsner applied their rewinding and folding machine technology and experience in handling a wide range of nonwovens and other products such as fabric softeners, wet wipes, surgical drapes, dry wipes, tissue, napkins and others.

The new machine meets the special requirements of producing a finished product untouched in the production process as the membrane is coated with an ultra thin coating which cannot be touched in the combining and folding process.

Other filter materials can easily be handled by the EMF-42 which utilizes advanced PLC electronics to monitor and control operation parameters. A user-friendly display allows easy input and allows fast and easy set-up of the production process. The machine can be set up by Elsner to handle other highly specialized specific product and application requirements or a range of filter product materials.
