Field Spectroradiometer identifies plant species.

Press Release Summary:

Working alone or in combination with hyperspectral or multi-spectral imaging from satellite or airborne sources, PSR+ 3500 provides non-destructive species identification in situ. Portable 350–2,500 nm unit offers auto-shutter, auto-exposure, and auto-dark exposure. Using reflectance measurements, researchers can discriminate between species by examining distinctive absorption features in full spectrum such as moisture content, color variation, and lignin/cellulose values.

Plant Species Identification with a SPECTRAL EVOLUTION Field Spectroradiometer

SPECTRAL EVOLUTION’s PSR+ is well-suited for critical species identification in vegetation studies

Lawrence, MA – In vegetation, forest canopy, environmental and other research projects, species identification is a critical starting point. Field spectroradiometers, like the SPECTRAL EVOLUTION PSR+ provide fast, non-destructive species identification in situ. Working alone or in combination with hyperspectral or multi-spectral imaging from satellite or airborne sources, these lightweight and portable instruments allow for single user scanning and identification in the field.

In forest and vegetation studies, detailed information not readily extracted from satellite or fly-over images can be gained by mapping an area with a full range, 350-2500 nanometer PSR+ spectroradiometer. Using reflectance measurements, researchers can discriminate between species by examining distinctive absorption features in the full spectrum such as moisture content, color variation, lignin/cellulose values, and more.

Spectral resolution of our PSR+ 3500 model is enhanced for high resolution scans:

≤ 3.0nm @ 700nm (FWHM)

≤ 8.0nm @ 1500nm (FWHM)

≤ 6.0nm @ 2100nm (FWHM)

The PSR+ also offers improved electronic control circuitry for best-in-class noise equivalence radiance (with 4° lens):

≤ 0.5 x 10-9 W/cm2/nm/sr@ 400nm

≤ 0.8 x 10-9 W/cm2/nm/sr@ 1500nm

≤ 1.0 x 10-9 W/cm2/nm/sr@ 2100nm

The PSR+ provides for easy field use with auto-shutter, auto-exposure, and auto-dark exposure for one-touch operation. With no moving optics and its improved optical path, it is designed for field reliability under a broad range of field conditions. Three photodiode arrays include a 512 element silicon detector and two 256 element TE-cooled extended wavelength array InGaAs detectors covering the 350-2500nm spectral range, all carefully selected and matched for optimum performance.
