Original Press Release:

Shakespeare Composite Structures(TM) Introduces Next-Generation Composite Tuff-Pole®

Shakespeare Composite Structures(TM) has introduced the next generation in composite pole technology, the result of a three-year research and testing program and a thorough retooling of the manufacturing process. Now available for shipment, the new poles are stronger, lighter, and longer lasting than ever before, and bear the registered trademark Tuff-Pole®.

"Tuff-Poles® are the result of the newest technologies in fiberglass and resin systems, along with advanced manufacturing process controls," said a company spokesperson. "We've engineered new resin mixes and new fiberglass configurations. To this, we have applied new automated process controls, tightening manufacturing tolerances and quality control. Refinements in our winding process make Tuff-Poles® better looking, as well."

The new Tuff-Pole® formula contains advanced UV inhibitors and coatings that provide even longer lasting protection in extreme weather conditions. Composite poles cannot rust or rot - perfect for outdoor pole applications.

Tuff-Poles® are available in a variety of styles including round tapered, straight square, decorative, sports lighting, and utility poles to 75 feet. The poles now come in a new array of color standards, with pigments formulated into the resins for long lasting color retention and minimal maintenance. The poles arrive in new UV-resistant TuffPole® packaging and come with a new stronger, longer warranty.

"Our new Tuff-Pole® technology now provides one of the most competitively priced poles on the market, and the most durable," the spokesperson said. "Current customers have noticed the changes already, and many have called just to compliment us on the quality of the product."

"The Tuff-Pole® improvements result from a variety of new technologies that include finite element computer modeling to more rapidly design and predict pole performance under specific conditions," said Dr. Jim Davidson, vice-president of research and development.

"This is only the beginning of our TuffPole® series. We have numerous additional development projects under way, including taller and even stronger poles."
Now a division of GenlyteThomas Group (Louisville, KY), Shakespeare Composite Structures(TM) has since the 1950's pioneered the use of fiberglass reinforced composites in lighting and utility poles. The company is the world leader in fiberglass reinforced composite utility poles.
