Superior Essex Introduces New Fiber Ribbon Cable with up to 1008 Optical Fibers
ATLANTA, Dec. 29 / -- Superior Essex (NASDAQ:SPSX) announced today the introduction of a new family of Outside Plant fiber ribbon cable products containing between 288 and 1008 optical fibers. The first customer installation of the 1008 fiber-count design is planned for next week.
Available in all-dielectric and armored constructions, each of the new fiber cable products utilizes a stranded tube design containing up to 12 fiber optic ribbons per tube and 144 optical fibers per tube. Multiple tubes are combined within the cable to allow for the maximum 1008 total optical fibers. This stranded tube design allows for easier separation of the optical fibers than the typical "central tube" high fiber-count cable designs.
Select telecommunications service providers often require high fiber-count (>432 fibers) cables for the high-traffic backbone transport portions of their networks. Superior Essex developed this cable family for customers who prefer the flexibility of a stranded tube design over the alternative "central tube" cable design.
