Fiber Optic Repeaters suit RS485 fieldbus systems.

Press Release Summary:

Basic version, OZD 485 G12 BAS, enables linear and star-shaped wiring and covers distances up to 3,100 m, while Professional version, OZD 485 G12 PRO, can be used additionally in ring topology and ranges up to 22 km. Data is transmitted over 1 or 2 independent data channels transparently and continuously at 0-1.5 Mbit/s. Due to optical transmission technique and redundancy mechanisms, repeaters are suited for secure data communication in areas with electromagnetic conditions.

New FO Repeater OZD 485 G12 from Hirschmann in Basic and Professional Versions

Secure data transmission in RS 485 field bus systems

The Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH, Neckartenzlingen, has added the FO repeaters OZD 485 G12 BAS and OZD 485 G12 PRO to its product portfolio. Both repeaters are designed for use in field bus systems based on the RS 485 standard. Whilst the basic version (OZD 485 G12 BAS) enables both a linear and star-shaped wiring, the professional version can be used additionally in ring topology. Due to the optical transmission technique and special redundancy mechanisms, the repeaters are especially suitable for secure data communication in areas with difficult electromagnetic conditions. An approval for using the OZD 485 G12 PRO in hazardous (explosive) areas has been applied for.

With the basic version, distances of up to 3,100 metres can be covered. The professional version is offered additionally as a long distance version for fibre lengths of a maximum 22 kilometres. The data are transmitted over one (OZD 485 G12 BAS) or two independent data channels (OZD 485 G12 PRO) transparently and continuously at a rate of 0 to 1.5 Mbit/s. In case of a line break, both repeaters automatically switch over to the redundant connection within 1.2 milliseconds which guarantees a constantly high network availability.

The OZD 485 G12 PRO has a status display for showing the current optical transmission power. The measuring signals are available in the process control system and can be used, among other things, for preventive maintenance. This increases the operational reliability and reduces the service costs.

Both repeaters can be mounted on DIN rails and set up quickly by the plug&play principle. The operating parameters are indicated by LEDs on the front of the devices. The OZD 485 G12 PRO is designed for a temperature range of -25 to +70 and the basic version for 0 to +60 degrees Celsius.
