Metrobility Introduces New Fiber Connectivity Devices

Advanced new design offers more features at a lower price

Merrimack, NH-October 1, 2002-Metrobility Optical Systems today announced the release of the Delta Class "twister", a fiber optic connectivity device which offers customers a markedly lower cost of ownership for optical Ethernet media conversion and rate adaption technology.

The Delta Class "twister" incorporates a sleek new look designed for today's contemporary office environments. The case, molded from engineered plastics, offers built-in cable management and protection, highly visible link and activity LEDs, and can mount easily to any office wall.

Metrobility has incorporated advanced troubleshooting features such as remote loopback, Link Loss Carry Forward, Link Loss Return, Far End Fault, and auto-recovery as well as convenient operational features such as automatic negotiation of full and half duplex modes and automatic crossover. These troubleshooting features can significantly reduce the cost-of-ownership. For example, the cost to send a technician to a remote site including travel time can easily cost hundreds of dollars. With the Delta Class remote loopback feature, both time and costs are dramatically reduced. The Delta Class "twister" also ensures accurate data transmission up to 100km by retiming the signal to reduce jitter.

"By utilizing state-of-art microchip technology in the electronics and engineered plastics for the enclosure, Metrobility has achieved its goal of offering a product in a rugged lightweight enclosure with superior feature advantages that could be offered at a very attractive price," stated Alex Saunders, president and CEO of Metrobility Optical Systems. "With this new design we have significantly reduced the number of components, improved reliability and cut manufacturing and material costs. We are pleased to be able to offer our customers the next generation of our very successful "twister" family at such a competitive price."

The feature-rich Delta Class "twister" is initially available for 100Mbps and 10/100Mbps copper-to-fiber conversion and is available in both multimode and singlemode models. Pricing ranges from $329 for copper-to-multimode fiber models to $2,199 for copper-to-singlemode fiber for extended distances to 100km. The company is currently accepting orders for the Delta Class models with shipments scheduled to begin in mid-October.
