Fiber Couplers/Splitters support wide temperature range.

Press Release Summary:

With fused biconically tapered platform, Sub-Zero Polarization Maintaining Fused 125 µm and 80 µm Fiber Couplers/Splitters operate from -55 to +85°C, without significant changes in Polarization Extinction Ratio. Components are small in size with low excess loss, optimal uniformity, and high directivity. Built to mil-aerospace standards and available in various split ratios, devices are suited for fiber gyros and sensors, instrumentation, harsh environment DTS and smart structures.

Original Press Release:

Gould Fiber Optics Announces a New Product Offering: Gould's Sub-Zero, Wide Operating Temperature Range, Polarization Maintaining (PM) Fused 125 µm and 80 µm Fiber Couplers/Splitters

Millersville, MD, USA — Gould Fiber Optics, a leading manufacturer and supplier of premium passive fiber optic components and integrated modules to the Medical/OCT, laser, sensors and aerospace/military industries, has expanded its component line to support a wide operating temperature range for polarization maintaining (PM) fibers. Our expanded component line features extreme operating temperature ranges from -55°C TO +85°C for PM fibers including Panda and Bow-Tie fibers. Gould announces its Sub-Zero, Wide Operating Temperature Range, PM Fused 125 µm and 80 µm Fiber Couplers/Splitters.

Due to the significant drop of Polarization Extinction Ratio (PER) at below freezing temperatures, PM couplers usually operate from 0 to +70°C. Gould’s proprietary fused biconically tapered (FBT) platform and packaging technology has made it possible to build high performing PM couplers operating reliably from -55°C TO +85°C, without significant changes in PER and other optical parameters over such a wide operating temperature range. These types of PM couplers are very suitable for use in many high reliability systems and modules. Ideal for use in defense and aerospace, fiber gyro and sensors, harsh environment DTS and smart structures, instrumentation and test and measurement applications.  These components are are small in size featuring low excess loss, excellent uniformity, high polarization extinction ratio, low wavelength dependent loss, and high directivity. Built to mil-aerospace standards, available in various split ratios, slow and fast axis.

“Gould Fiber Optics continues to move forward, anticipating the needs of the Optical Industry.” Gould Technology General Manager Dr. Saeed Pilevar stated. “With these new products, our customers will have a new range of environmental solutions available to them, all with the high quality PM components they have come to expect from Gould.”
