DataRemote Inc. Launches Cost-Effective Comprehensive New 900 MHz Solution

VENTURA, Calif., April 4 / -- Global wireless solution provider DataRemote, Inc., has introduced a robust new product family into the AMR, POS, telemetry, SCADA and REM markets with its new DataRemote WDS-9900-S frequency hopping spread spectrum modem. This unique new modem provides a reliable solution perfect for utilities, oil and gas fields and other similar applications where a number of end devices are within close proximity of each other. The WDS-9900-S allows the end-user to aggregate data from multiple devices using 900 MHz license free spectrum, and utilize a single cellular modem for backhaul, which helps reduce monthly cellular charges.

The WDS-9900-S modem is designed to accommodate a variety of modes to provide fast and secure wireless connectivity. In its point-to-point mode of operation two modems communicate directly with one another to provide data connectivity over a distance. In a point-to-multi-point configuration, one modem acts as a "master," distributing data to a number of slave units. Finally, using their store and forward capability, modems also have the ability to function as repeaters, thus enhancing coverage considerably. With optional features such as a built-in rechargeable battery pack, providing temporary operation in the event of a power outage, and a soon to be released input/output interface, the WDS-9900 family of products caters to a variety of customer requirements.

Using a frequency hopping technique, where the modem transmits over a range of continuously changing frequencies, this innovative new DataRemote solution is highly resistant to multipath fading and interference. An easy-to-use graphical user interface facilitates control of its advanced features. With a maximum throughput of 172.6 kbps and a selectable output power range of 100mW to 500mW, the DataRemote WDS-9900-S fits seamlessly into the company's suite of wireless communications platforms, with direct compatibility to the popular DataRemote CDS-9060M, which supports IS-95 and 1xRTT CDMA transmissions.

"In offering both the cellular modem product lines, as well as a 900 MHZ product line, we are able to tightly integrate the two in each application," says Kris Kelkar, President and CEO of DataRemote. "Our vision is that in the various verticals that DataRemote operates, we become a one-stop shop and continue to provide even more comprehensive solutions."
