Data I/O's New Tray Feeder System Eliminates Tray Replenishment Time, Maximizes Programming Throughput

Redmond, WA, September 3, 2002 - Data I/O® Corporation (NASDAQ:DAIO), a leading provider of advanced programming systems, announced the introduction of its TF20 Tray Feeder system that provides a more cost effective and efficient method of handling devices in and out of trays during the programming cycle.

TF20 Tray Feeder is a portable, compact and high-throughput system ergonomically designed to integrate easily with new or existing Data I/O PP or PS Series automated programming equipment. The modular design is available in both load and unload configurations. The TF20 delivers standard IEC and JEDEC thick or thin trays to the host machine with a high degree of accuracy and repeatability. By enabling new trays of devices to be continually replenished without either removing the feeder or stopping the host machine, maximum flexibility and utilization is realized.

One critical element of an automated programming system's performance is having a continuous flow of programmable devices with minimal stoppage time. As today's off-line programmers increase in speed, device matrix trays require more frequent replenishment, increasing the role of the operator. The TF20 Tray Feeder system automates this process, eliminating tray replenishment time and increasing productivity and manufacturing flexibility.

"Operator intervention of an automated machine is not only costly in labor and but also throughput," said Mark Briant, Data I/O Product Marketing Manager for Automated Systems. "The TF20 Tray Feeder exchange system is so fast that tray replenishment is achieved during the machine TAKT time, providing a true non-stop system."

He continued, "The TF20 Tray Feeder gives significant benefits to Data I/O customers. The tray exchange action is effortless, allowing Chip Scale Packages (µBGA) to remain stable during transfer." Because the TF20 Tray Feeder is compatible with the company's installed base of most PP and PS Series automated programming systems, cost-effective expansion of current systems is possible. What's more, the side mounting design optimizes floor space utilized by the existing machine.

The TF20 product incorporates electronically controlled drive systems that enable the feeder to safely handle thick or thin JEDEC or IEC trays without adjustment to the feeder. Automatic tray exchange controlled by the host machine is less than five seconds. Trays are fed automatically from the stack to the pick position and returned once the devices have been programmed.
