Advantech First to Debut Fanless Intel® Core(TM) i7 Platform

Irvine, California, - Advantech, a leading provider of embedded platforms and integration services, is pleased to announce the release of its ARK-3440, incorporating an Intel® Core(TM) i7 or Core(TM) i5 processor in a totally fanless system.

"This two-chip architecture offers the advantages of high computing power in a very small footprint," said Phil Chiu, the Advantech Product Manager in charge of the ARK-3440. "When it comes to sheer processing power per cubic inch, this model may well be the frontrunner of any fanless industrial computer today, and being fanless is a critical advantage for a number of applications."

A step up from Advantech's ARK-3420 but with higher computing power and a built-in HDMI decoder, the ARK-3440 carries the improved Intel® QM57 chipset with integrated 3D graphics. It's 3.6 times faster than the previous-generation integrated graphics chipset, the GM965. This graphics engine is capable of broadcasting commercial content in full HD, and offers widescreen multi-display support. Support for HDMI 1.3 is built in, along with DVI1.0. Graphics options include both CRT and 24-bit LVDS.

The ARK-3440 boasts other capabilities expected of a leading edge industrial computer. Its power input is 9 ~ 34 VDC, and it can take up to 4 GB of DDR3 1066 MHz SODIMM, two internal 2.5-inch SATA bays, two GbEs, six USB 2.0 ports, three COM ports, and audio. Its two PCI/PCIe slots can be mixed or matched. There are six programmable function keys on the front panel.

The ARK-3440 is well suited to a number of processor-intensive applications, including surveillance, machine control, and image processing. The ARK-3440 has an IP rating of 40.
