Original Press Release:

Horton Announces HVDI Diagnostic and Control Software

ROSEVILLE, Minn. - Horton, Inc. has introduced HVDI software, a Windows®-based diagnostic and control application, to aid in the rapid deployment of Horton's VMaster® Di and Stratis® Di Viscous Fan Drive and Controller Systems. Initially limited for use by only Horton's development engineers, the HVDI software is now available to select engine distributors and OEMs interested in evaluating VMaster Di or Stratis Di Viscous Fan Drive and Controller applications for engine cooling.

The HVDI Diagnostic and Control Software is part of Horton's viscous development kit. The kit also includes a VMaster or Stratis Viscous Fan Drive, a cooling fan, a test wiring harness, a Di Controller and a USB to CAN (controller area network) communication adapter. This kit is designed to allow the OEM to install the fan and drive, connect the harness to the vehicle and Di controller, and have the variable-speed fan drive up and running in minutes.

Using the HVDI software, the user can connect to the vehicle; adjust the fan speed control loop; evaluate special modes, such as an external fan request or 70-percent fan speed override for noise testing; perform basic troubleshooting and diagnostics; and manually control the fan speed. The HVDI application provides additional functionality to record test data, create text files and export controller settings for quick analysis with Horton's application engineers. Using this software, engineers can quickly evaluate the noise reduction and fuel-saving benefits of a Horton variable-speed viscous fan drive system.
