Fairchild Semiconductor Wins Two EDN China "Leading Products Innovation Awards" for the Third Year in a Row

FXL2TD245 is the industry's only dual-supply bi-directional translator with independent-direction controls, and the FAN2106 is the industry's smallest, fully integrated 6A, 24V-input synchronous buck regulator

San Jose, California - November 21, 2007 - Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), the leading global supplier of high performance products that optimize system power, has received two leading products accolades in the prestigious EDN China Innovation Awards 2007. Fairchild's FAN2106 TinyBuck(TM) DC-DC buck regulator was chosen as a leading product in the competitive Analog & Mixed Signal ICs category, while the FXL2TD245 in MicroPak(TM) dual-supply bi-directional translator was successful in the Power Devices & Module category.

"We are very pleased that EDN China has selected these two devices for their 'Leading Products Innovation Awards.' This is the third consecutive year that Fairchild has been named a winner, and we're extremely proud of our success. It shows the depth of knowledge and expertise at Fairchild and clearly highlights our ongoing drive to design products that meet the very specific needs of China's electronics engineers," said Rexin Wang, Fairchild's vice president of Technical & Applications Support Centre, Asia Pacific. "Considering the high level of competition, it is very satisfying to receive awards in two separate categories."

Products were assessed and selected by a panel of EDN China judges, consisting of industry experts and specialists from China's leading OEM companies, academic institutes, universities and EDN China's editorial board. Readers and registered users of EDN China were invited to vote for the winners in eight categories: Microprocessor and DSP; Analog/Mixed Signal IC; Digital IC and Digital Logic; Power Device and Modules; Test and Measurement; Development Tools and Software; Telecommunications IC; and Consumer Electronics IC.

Fairchild's award-winning FAN2106 is the first product in a new family of TinyBuck(TM) DC-DC buck regulators that integrate an advanced analog IC, MOSFETs and a bootstrap diode into an ultra-compact molded leadless package (MLP). Measuring only 5mm x 6mm, the FAN2106 is the industry's smallest 6A, 24V-input integrated synchronous buck regulator on the market today. This highly integrated low-profile, small-footprint device consumes approximately 50 percent less board space than discrete solutions and facilitates greater design flexibility. Furthermore, the FAN2106 achieves up to 95 percent power efficiency by converting input of 3V through 24V input voltages to output voltages as low as 0.8V while delivering up to 6A output current. This compact, easy-to-use, high-efficiency regulator is ideal in a broad range of point-of-load (POL) applications. These include set-top boxes, cable modems, in-cabin GPSs, portable medical equipment, LED lighting, industrial instrumentation as well as ultra-mobile PCs, notebooks and blade servers.

The award-winning FXL2TD245 is the first dual-supply bi-directional translator on the market configurable for both uni-directional and independent bi-directional voltage translation between two logic levels. In addition to offering designers unparalleled design flexibility in a wide variety of low-voltage applications, this MicroPak packaged translator helps to dramatically save board space. The FXL2TD245 measures only 0.55mm x 1.6mm x 2.1mm, which is 80 percent smaller than comparable dual-supply translators in SOIC packages. It also replaces two 1-bit components used in typical designs. This ultra-compact translator is ideal for use in cell phones, PDAs, gaming devices and other portable applications, although its wide voltage range (1.1-3.6v) accommodates the voltage requirements of a variety of consumer and industrial applications.

"Receiving these awards further strengthens Fairchild's leadership position as The Power Franchise®. Both the FAN2106 TinyBuck all-in-one module and FXL2TD245 in MicroPak help our customers minimize time-to-market and reduce bill-of-materials (BOM) cost, vital considerations for today's low-voltage applications. It is very rewarding to see the Fairchild team's efforts recognized by China's design engineering community," concluded Wang.
