Fairchild Semiconductor Repeat Winner for Top 10 DC-DC Product Awards

FDMF8700 driver plus FET multi-chip module offers ideal solution for space-constrained and other DC/DC applications

San Jose, California - September 13, 2007 - Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), the leading global supplier of power semiconductors, has once again been named a winner in Electronic Product China's Top 10 DC-DC 2007 product awards. The judging panel selected Fairchild's FDMF8700 fully optimized, integrated 12V driver plus MOSFET power stage solution as a winner. Fairchild's 30V synchronous buck converter chip set, FDS6298 and FDS6299S won the same award in 2006.

The FDMF8700 integrates a driver IC and two Power MOSFETs into a space saving, 8mm x 8mm, 56-pin MLP package and is ideal for high current synchronous buck DC-DC applications. Fairchild's integrated approach optimizes the complete switching power stage with regards to driver to FET dynamic performance, system inductance and overall solution ON resistance. Package parasitics and problematical layouts associated with conventional discrete solutions are greatly reduced. Additionally, this integrated approach results in significant board space saving, therefore maximizing footprint power density. The FDMF8700 saves fifty percent board space compared to discrete components.

Fairchild's multi-chip module offers an ideal solution for space-constrained applications such as desktops, media center PCs, ultra-dense servers, blade servers, advanced gaming systems, graphic cards, networking and telecom equipment, and other DC/DC applications and is based on Intel(TM) DrMOS specification.

The FDMF8700 is significant because it achieves an optimal application solution by using components that are matched electrically, thermally and mechanically to the input and output characteristics of each element. In operation, the high-side MOSFET is optimized for fast switching while the low-side device is optimized for low R DS(ON). This arrangement ideally accommodates the low-duty-cycle switching requirements needed to convert the 12V bus to supply the processor core with 1.0V to 1.2V at up to 30A.

"The global demand for technologies that reduce power consumption and wastage, and subsequently enhance our environment is increasing significantly and Fairchild, the Power Franchise®, is at the forefront in meeting these technological challenges. We're pleased to see our efforts in meeting these challenges being recognized," said Fairchild's Account Manager David He, who accepted the award on behalf of the company at a special ceremony hosted during the 6th Power Technology Conference held in Beijing. Commenting on the award win he said, "We're proud to be chosen a winner of this award again this year."

Key features of the FDMF8700 include:

12V typical input voltage.
Output current up to 30A.
