ioSafe Unveils the ioSafe Solo - World's First 1.5TB External Hard Drive That Protects Against Data Loss From the Risks of Fires and Floods

Compared to Seagate FreeAgent vs. Western Digital My Book External Hard Drives, the ioSafe Solo Sets a New Benchmark in Improving Data Protection.

Starting at $149, the Affordable ioSafe Solo Improves Risks for Disk Backup Disaster Recovery Solutions.

AUBURN, Calif., Jan. 13 /-- ioSafe Inc., the technology solution vendor in disaster-proof hardware technologies and devices, introduced the ioSafe Solo, the world's first 1.5TB external hard drive with integrated ioSafe disaster protection technologies. Optimized to be a low cost external hard drive backup solution and improve the risks associated with data loss, the ioSafe Solo was introduced last week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The fireproof and waterproof device capabilities were tested and compared versus unprotected hard drives and gathered extensive glowing reviews from attendees. During the demonstration, the pros and cons of disaster proof external hard drives versus non-disaster protected hard drives such as the Seagate FreeAgent or Western Digital My Book were compared.

Starting at $149, the ioSafe Solo has improved and optimized its external hard drive technology to be an exceptional value versus non-protected external hard drives. Previously a supplier of enterprise NAS appliance solutions, the ioSafe's Solo expands the solution to consumers and businesses everywhere. The ioSafe external hard drive sets a new benchmark when compared against other external hard drive solutions. With up to 1.5TB of capacity, the ioSafe Solo upgrades a single 3.5 inch Seagate or Western Digital SATA internal hard disk drive with its patented fireproof and flood-proof enclosure solution. The ioSafe Solo optimizes risks and helps protect precious data from loss in fire temperatures up to 1,550 degrees Fahrenheit and flood protection down to a 10 foot depth for 3 days. The ioSafe Solo is available in capacities of 500GB, 1TB and 1.5TB and connects to PCs, Macs or Linux computers with a USB 2.0 interface. Starting at $149, all ioSafe Solos come with a $1,000 ioSafe Disaster Recovery Service included in the purchase. The Disaster Recovery Service provides up to $1,000 of third-party forensic drive data recovery service should the ioSafe Solo be damaged and the company is unable to directly recover the information.

"For years ioSafe has provided the industry's leading disaster proof hardware. The ioSafe Solo at 1.5TB, provides a tremendous disaster protection solution and represents fantastic value as a plug-and-play USB external hard drive versus unprotected external hard drives," said Robb Moore, CEO of ioSafe. "Using our patented technology and manufacturing processes, we have improved on our enterprise backup appliances and created the first affordable disaster proof external hard drive solution to resolve risks optimizing data protection for consumers and businesses. Anywhere data is at risk from fire and flood, the ioSafe Solo can be a solution to improve the risk and help prevent data loss."

"For less than 30 cents per gigabyte, no other solution I can think of offers so much disaster protection, speed and capacity for so little money," said George Crump, founder of Storage Switzerland, an analyst firm focused on the storage and virtualization markets. "ioSafe has developed a very compelling product for every person or business using external hard drives. Located in Texas, we use ioSafe solutions and certainly felt safer knowing our critical data was on ioSafe drives during the Hurricane Ike event. The majority of data stored today is at risk of loss from fires or floods. Anybody with unprotected precious digital data should buy one of these now -- before the fire or flood -- not after."

ioSafe Solo product details

The ioSafe Solo external disk drive is engineered and tested to protect data from fire (up to 1,550 degrees Fahrenheit for one-half hour per ASTM E119) and flood (full immersion in fresh or salt water at depths up to 10 feet for 3 days). These capabilities are made possible by ioSafe's technology which can be used for both internally developed products and available to third-party manufactures for licensing. The technology optimizes protection of disk drive data to prevent damage from fire, floods and other disasters - while at the same time uniquely resolving heat dissipation issues found in all computer systems.

The ioSafe technology includes:

o ioSafe's patented FloSafe cooling vent technology provides air-flow cooling to dissipate heat during normal operation. FloSafe technology also has the ability to detect destructive heat levels and automatically close the vents to protect data from extreme heat.

o Data on ioSafe protected products also is protected from extreme heat by ioSafe's proprietary DataCast endothermic insulation technology. Chemically embedded with water, cooling water vapor is engineered to be released above temperatures of 160 degrees Fahrenheit to protect the data within the enclosure.

o The patented HydroSafe technology is a waterproof vapor barrier designed to protect data loss from fresh or salt-water damage, including full immersion. Simultaneously, HydroSafe technology allows the cooling FloSafe air flow heat dissipation required by all computer hardware during normal operation.
