Ocean Optics ADC1000-USB Provides New Choice In Analog-To-Digital Conversion
Dunedin, Fla., October 2001 - Ocean Optics offers a new choice in spectrographic analog-to-digital conversion with the introduction of its ADC1000-USB External A/D converter. The ADC1 000-USB, available for $599, allows users of Ocean Optics S2000 Spectrometers to interface to PCs via a USB port or to devices supporting RS-232 via a serial port.
The ADC1000-USB may be connected directly to the back of an S2000-series Spectrometer. Or, it can be stacked through header pins to the spectrometer and mounted in the same enclosure. The ADC1000-USB provides a 1 MHz sampling frequency that enables integration periods as short as 3 milliseconds. A USB connection to the PC allows full scans of 2048 wavelengths to be transferred into memory every 13 milliseconds. The ADC1000-USB may also be connected to a PC or other device via a standard RS-232 serial port. This option requires a +5V DC power supply that is available from Ocean Optics for an additional charge.
Users of the ADC1000-USB can take advantage of the unit's channel rotator function for simultaneous acquisition of data from up to eight spectrometer channels in four modes including free-running operation, extemal triggering, external synchronization and software triggering. A pass-through D-Sub-1 5 connector provides access to the S2000's accessory pins when the ADC1000-USB is attached to the back of the spectrometer.
The ADC1000-USB supports alt Ocean Optics 32-bit software and is compatible with Microsoft's Windows 98/Me and Windows 2000 operating systems when connected via the USB port. Additionally, Windows 95 and Windows NT are supported when the ADC1000-USB is connected to a system's RS-232 port. Windows CE 2.11 or later is required when using the ADC1000-USB with a handheld PC.
