Extender Boards use rigid-flex-rigid PCB design.

Press Release Summary:

VXS Extender Boards utilize right angle pin connector that plugs into backplane, connected to flex circuit that wires to straight receptacle to receive plug-in board. Units bring circuit card completely out of card cage or enclosure so that it can be tested and debugged. There are test points for all differential pairs on MultiGig fabric connector for hub slots. Boards come in 10-layer stripline design for rigid PCB and microstrip design for flex circuit portion.

Elma Bustronic Announces Industry's First VXS Extender Boards

FREMONT, California, Jan 16, 2006 - Elma Bustronic, an industry leading designer and manufacturer of high performance backplanes and system accessories, has announced the industry's first VXS Extender Boards.

Company Contact: Justin Moll, Elma Bustronic Corporation 510.490.7388 510.490.1853 fax e-mail: jmoll@ElmaBustronic.com

Elma Bustronic used creative engineering to solve a major problem in developing the VXS Extender Board - the lack of a right angle receptacle for VXS in the marketplace. So, the company produced a rigid-flex-rigid PCB design to get around the problem. The solution entails a right angle pin connector that plugs into the backplane, connected to a flex circuit that wires to the straight receptacle to receive the plug-in board.

The VXS extender boards are designed to bring a circuit card completely out of a card cage or enclosure so that it can be tested or debugged. This provides access to both sides of the test board. There are test points for all of the differential pairs on the MultiGig fabric connector for the hub slots. This extender is solely for the hub slots, and Elma Bustronic will announce a payload slot version within a few weeks.

VXS Switched Serial VME is relatively new architecture that utilizes both legacy VME and serial differential pair signals. The VXS Extender boards come in a 10-layer stripline design for the rigid PCB and microstrip design for the flex circuit portion. Also featured is an ampmeter, which measures the current and has a digital indicator on the front panel showing the status.

Elma Bustronic also offers extender boards in VXI, VME, AdvancedTCA and CompactPCI architectures. Other system accessories include load boards, power interface boards, shelf managers, system/voltage monitors, and more.
