Extended Non-Ambient Capillary Diffraction Capabilities from Panalytical and Anton Paar

Modern materials science demands sophisticated tools to perform investigations in defined environments and under controlled temperature conditions. Non-ambient X-ray diffraction (XRD) is established for a wide range of industrial and research applications. Now, a new capillary extension, compatible with PANalytical's combined X'Pert PRO MPD/HTK 1200N High-Temperature Oven Chamber (Anton Paar) system, expands the capabilities of this already powerful combination. The novel accessory creates a 'two-in-one' Reflection- and Transmission High-Temperature XRD system, further strengthening PANalytical's non-ambient diffraction capabilities.

PANalytical's unique PreFIX concept allows seamless integration of the new Capillary Extension, transforming the HTK 1200N High-Temperature Oven Chamber into a high-end capillary heater for transmission XRD between 25 and 1000°C. Conversion between standard geometry for flat samples and the capillary setup can be carried out in minutes, without removing the oven chamber from the goniometer. Temperature data are saved in XRDML format for further processing using PANalytical's X'Pert Data Collector software which controls all measurement routines.

Studying materials in non-ambient conditions is important for many industries and areas of research. XRD of capillary samples offers an effective solution for preferred orientation problems, providing an easy and rapid method for obtaining randomly oriented powder samples. Uniform high temperature performance and excellent control characterize the HTK 1200N. This, together with straightforward capillary handling and alignment, and an impressive scan range of 1.5 to 88°, means that the application possibilities of this instrumental combination are inspiring.
