Expansion Joints for a 400,000bpd Full-Conversion Refinery

A project that began in 2006 grows closer to completion as the refinery procures the final equipment to start processing in 2014. The refinery, located in Yanbu, will produce high-quality, ultra-low sulphurrefined products that satisfy existing and future US and European product specifications.
Over the years, EagleBurgmann EJS has designed and manufacturered many expansion joints for this project. The most recent are these (9) 60" diameter tied universal expansion joints (pictured above) for the refinery's utilities package and interconnecting systems. Designed for pressures of 145 psig / 1000 kPa and temperatures of 167deg F / 75deg C, the expansion joint will be exposed to cooling water.
Additional expansion joints supplied for the projects are these 30" and 36" single tied flanged expansion joints with covers and inner ply leak indicator.
The estimated $10 billion refinery is expected to process 400,000 barrels per day (b/d) of Arabian Heavy crude oil and produce 90,000 b/d of gasoline, 263,000 b/d of ultra-low-sulfur diesel, 6,300 metric tons per day (mtd) of coke, and 1,200 mtd of sulfur.
