Expansion Arbors help grind gears.

Press Release Summary:

FORTIS arbors clamp work pieces or tools for gear grinding and hobb sharpening. High inner pressure when actuated stretches steel concentrically, providing constant clamping and vibration dampening. Total indicator run out is less than 0.00012 in. Concentricity of arbors is maintained within 0.005 mm between OD and ID. Arbors are sealed against contamination, allowing them to be used in machining applications where coolants and metal grit are present.

Original Press Release:

SCHUNK's Wide Selection Of Arbors Ideal For Gear Grinding And Hobb Grinding; Providing Accuracy To .00012" TIR

SCHUNK's FORTIS line is a unique selection of expansion arbors for precision I.D. clamping of work pieces or tools. High inner pressure when actuated "stretches" the steel concentrically, providing a constant clamping force for extremely high accuracy, vibration dampening, and the ability to hold tight tolerances at high RPMs.

A TIR (total indicator run out) of less than .00012" guarantees precise work piece clamping for many machining functions, particularly the forces generated in gear grinding and hobb sharpening. Concentricity of these arbors is maintained within .005mm between O.D. and I.D.

The FORTIS arbors are totally sealed against contamination, allowing them to be used in harsh machining applications where coolants and metal grit are present. SCHUNK's FORTIS arbors are especially wear resistant, with hardened centers up to 58 HRC. The FORTIS line also allows sleeves to be added to the arbor to allow for holding various size parts.

The SSD-S series, with an expansion sleeve made of steel, has proven its reliability. SSD-S model is designed for mounting between centers, mounting in a hydraulic chuck, or for clamping in a 3-jaw chuck. FORTIS Expansion Arbors are available in standard as well as special designs with special mounts. SHUNK FORTIS arbors are made in the USA at SCHUNK's North Carolina facility. SCHUNK is a worldwide leader in the manufacture and distribution of work holding and clamping devices for high accuracy machining. Their product line includes hydraulic chucks, lathe chucks, chuck jaws, gripping systems for automation applications and a complete work holding line.
