Exostar Extends Its Secure Identity Services to Federal, State and Local Agencies

HERNDON, Va., March 15 -- Exostar, powering secure collaboration networks for the world's largest aerospace and defense (A&D) organizations, has extended its secure identity management capabilities to federal and local government agencies. Effective today, Exostar reached a milestone of delivering over 1,000 of its new GovIDSM digital credentials as an integral part of the Johnson Controls P2000 Federated Identity Credentialing System (FICS).

In collaboration with the team chosen to implement the Commonwealth of Virginia's First Responder Authentication Credential (FRAC) Pilot Program, consisting of Johnson Controls, Northrop Grumman Corporation and Electronic Data Systems Corporation, Exostar first deployed GovID in January 2007.

"We are pleased to have Exostar as a critical part of our delivery team," said Gary Schworm, FRAC Team Leader for Johnson Controls.

Exostar's GovID will issue and maintain the lifecycle of PKI based identities for U.S. Federal, State and Local agencies, in compliance with the FIPS 201 standards as well as the U.S. Federal Bridge Certificate Authority Policy requirements. Above and beyond integration into multiple card management systems, Exostar GovID delivers information recoverability with robust key protection and recovery processes.

Exostar has partnered with a number of Major System Integrators to deliver GovID to agencies as part of complete FIPS 201 compliant solutions. Exostar's uniquely efficient approach to delivering GovID allows partners and end- customers a compliant solution with lower total cost of ownership. With plans now being defined across many agencies, this will be an important element of their go forward strategy.

"With Exostar's GovID, agencies no longer have to worry about the complicated requirements of establishing, implementing, certifying and maintaining a PKI infrastructure. Exostar's GovID allows agencies unlimited flexibility and scalability in their PKI deployments," said Vijay Takanti, Vice President of Exostar's security program.

GovID further demonstrates Exostar's commitment to driving enhanced security and collaboration capabilities for its customer community. As the founding partner of CertiPath, the aerospace and defense PKI Bridge for Cross-Certification, and the Design Authority for the Transatlantic Secure Collaboration Program (TSCP), Exostar is leading the way in securing multi-enterprise collaboration and identity management.

Exostar's GovID, a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Shared Service is accredited as a certified PKI Shared Service Provider (SSP) by both the Federal Identity Credential Committee and FIPS 201 Approved Products Lab. Both certifications can be viewed at www.cio.gov/fpkipa/cpl.htm and fips201ep.cio.gov/apl.php respectively.

Background

Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 is a presidential mandate outlining common identification card and identity systems standards for federal employees and contractors. HSPD-12 implements a new standardized identification and credentialing process, designed to enhance security, reduce identity fraud, and protect the personal privacy of those issued government identification. Identity needs to be consistent across departments and agencies, and should be applicable across both physical and logical access. FIPS 201 (Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 201) outlines the technology standards to meet the technical requirements of HSPD-12.
