Kubota KX161-3: Auto Idle System, Load Sensing System Combined with Power Takes This Kubota to the Top of the Class

TORRANCE, Calif.- Kubota Tractor Corporation (KTC) expands its construction equipment line with the introduction of the KX161-3 'Tight Tail Swing' compact excavator. The KX161-3 is noteworthy for such features as the Load Sensing System and Kubota's exclusive Auto Idle System. This model incorporates the finest of Kubota design, quality and reliability features, providing versatility and a full range of operations regardless of terrain or jobsite demands. "Operators can immediately feel exceptional precision during simultaneous operations with the Load Sensing System," said Keith Rohrbacker, Product Manager, Kubota Tractor Corporation.

The tail section projects a slim 4.75-inches beyond the width of the tracks while still maintaining the stability of a conventional tail swing. This helps to limit the possibility of damage to surrounding structures or equipment. The engine hood is recessed 5-inches from the edge of the counterweight so that side panels and engine components are well protected.

A Kubota exclusive in the United States is the KX161-3's Auto Idle System. This system helps conserve fuel and reduce engine noise and overall wear, by automatically dropping engine speed to idle when pilot controls are left static for more than four seconds. Any movement of the operating lever causes the KX161-3 to instantly return to its original engine RPM.

Kubota's remarkably advanced Load Sensing (hydraulic) System delivers the exact amount of oil required by each lifting cylinder thereby contributing to multifunction operations without loss of speed, power or balance. A variable displacement pump is standard and provides increased power and shorter cycle times when compared to gear pumps. Cylinder speeds are fully coordinated to ensure cycles complete simultaneously. Enhanced hydraulic performance gives this excavator the highest bucket breakout force in this class and results in the travel force being more powerful and dependable. Dozer operations are handled with utmost ease; the maximum drawbar pull is rated at 12,871 lbs. Hard, compacted soil and asphalt are no challenge for the KX161-3; the maximum bucket breakout force is rated at 11,118 lbs.

The KX161-3 is equipped with the long arm as a standard feature. The maximum digging radius at ground level is 241-inches enabling the operator to reach farther than with a standard arm thus repositioning less often. Productivity is therefore increased, as it is able to dig deeper trenches and footings as well as reach higher for demolition work. With a maximum digging depth of 152-inches and a maximum digging height of 227.2-inches, the KX161-3 can undertake most jobsite tasks.

Double-flanged track rollers reduce vibration when traveling and improve balance and stability when equipped with heavy attachments. A new rubber track design with large, V-shaped lugs improves traction and limits damage to sensitive surfaces.

The 30-degree angle upper track frame reduces the amount of dirt that falls into the tracks, this along with a new X-sub-frame improves the rigidity of the overall track frame further reducing track wear and possible track stoppage. The KX161-3's crawler tension springs absorb shock loads that could affect the service life of the rubber tracks.

The KX161-3 is powered by Kubota's sophisticated E-TVCS four-cylinder, diesel engine offering improved power output, impressive fuel economy, quick engine start up, reduced noise and cleaner emissions. The wide-open engine hood provides easy access to check battery, fan belt tension, fluid levels and air cleaner. Service life is significantly extended when routine maintenance checks are easily made.

The KX161-3 boasts an all-new cab/canopy design that looks good, and contributes to operator comfort and protection. Operator comfort and productivity is increased with an optional cab that includes a heater and an air conditioner for the most demanding weather conditions. A spacious, ROPS/FOPS OSHA-certified control room illustrates the close attention Kubota pays to operator comfort and safety and is equipped with a heater/defroster, an interior light, windshield wiper and washer as standard. The full-featured suspension seat with armrests makes a vital contribution to the operator's overall comfort and productivity.

An automatic house parking brake locks the upper structure into position as soon as the engine is turned off. The two pattern selection system (TPSS) allows the operator to easily change pilot controls by shifting the lever beneath the right console, with no tools required.

In addition to the KX-Series, Kubota Tractor Corporation markets a complete line of tractors up to 98 PTO horsepower, along with a line of performance-matched implements, construction equipment, pumps and generators, consumer lawn and garden equipment and commercial turf products.
