Komatsu Adds PC138USLC-2 to its Fleet of Near Zero Tail Swing Excavators

VERNON HILLS, Ill.- September 15, 2002- With the introduction of its PC138USLC-2 near-zero-tail-swing excavator, Komatsu America Corporation (KAC) continues to provide real-world solutions for its customer's needs. Designed primarily for work in confined zones, the 86-hp, 30,865-lb. PC138USLC-2 provides all the power, performance and productivity of its standard sized counterpart, the Komatsu PC120LC-6, with the benefit of almost no machine overhang.

The PC138USLC-2 is the newest member of Komatsu's near-zero-tail-
swing excavator family that includes the PC128USLC-2 and PC228USLC-3. Komatsu pioneered near-zero-tail-swing technology to aid its customers in areas where standard sized excavators can not be used. The PC138USLC-2 features Komatsu's patented HydrauMind(TM) hydraulic control system, a large ergonomically designed cab and three working modes, for increased productivity in any application.

Powered by a turbocharged Komatsu S4D102E-1 four cylinder, water-
cooled engine, the PC138USLC-2 features a 20,940 lb. bucket digging force and 13,890 lb. arm force.

Where No Other Machine Can Go

The PC138USLC-2s near-zero-tail-swing allows the operator to minimize workspace and operate in extremely confined work settings that are inaccessible to standard machines. The PC138USLC-2 is able to load within the track width of the machine, requiring only one lane of traffic to be shutdown during roadwork. It also simplifies construction and utility work in narrow urban areas.

The excavator's compact-design saves more than just space, it reduces the concern of damage to the environment, trees or other machines on the work site thus decreasing maintenance and repair costs by reducing damage occurrence. Even the sliding convex door is designed for tighter working conditions. It opens along the exterior curve of the cab, rather than swinging out on hinges past the tracks.

Operator Comfort Improves Performance

Standard in all of Komatsu's equipment is the "human first" approach to engineering the cabs. Each cab is designed to enhance operator comfort and increase productivity by reducing operator fatigue.

The PC138USLC-2s large cab features a wide door and a big seat to accommodate operators of any size. The viscous mounted cab is further equipped with a fully adjustable, movable armrest and control levers, air conditioning and an AM/FM radio. Noise levels are reduced to 72.5 Db(A) with hydraulics over relief.
