Everett Wants to Battle the Elements with AstroTurf

EVERETT, WASH. (PRWEB) MAY 22, 2018 - Ken Griffey, Jr. hit his first professional home run here, and now Everett Memorial Stadium plans on hosting on another baseball icon, AstroTurf®. The home of the Everett AquaSox, a Mariners Minor League affiliate, has a new look thanks to state-of-the-art synthetic turf from AstroTurf. Memorial Stadium, owned and operated by Everett Public Schools, is building on its long and storied history that dates all the way back to 1947.

In addition to the AquaSox, Everett High School, Everett Community College and the Everett Merchants also play their baseball games at Memorial Stadium. The decision to convert to artificial turf was influenced by a history of difficulties preparing the field for spring baseball at the end of the Pacific Northwest rainy season which saw the Seagulls of Everett High School play zero games at the stadium last year, while the Everett CC Trojans managed to squeeze in just two. Working from a DA Hogan & Associates design, excavation of the grounds was recently completed by Premier Field Development, a local field contractor that handled site work and drainage. Coast-to-Coast Turf, a certified AstroTurf distributor based in Seattle, installed the new artificial turf.

The new stadium turf at Everett Memorial Stadium will feature a synthetic turf system from AstroTurf’s Diamond Series product lineup. The Diamond Series is designed to emulate the look, feel, and playability of a natural surface without all of the muddy puddles and mess. The artificial grass has been engineered to replicate the ball roll and bounce found on grass, while the short-pile, I Fiber with RootZone turf used in the skin area, replicates the ball roll and bounce you would find on clay. Seamlessly integrated into one field, the Diamond Series delivers an incredibly durable, beautiful baseball surface that can handle high usage and inclement weather.

The field upgrade project is a joint venture between the Everett Public Schools, the Everett AquaSox, and Snohomish County. In addition to increasing the availability of the facility to its current occupants, the school district also hopes the new surface will enable the venue to host district and regional playoff games as it has in the past. Perhaps one of the many ball players to play on Everett Memorial Stadium’s new turf will one day have a plaque outside the stadium denoting their first home run, just like Junior.
