Evana Automation Ships Hub Assembly Cell for Keyless Entry Remotes to Tier 1 Automotive Supplier

Evana solution will improve part reliability and cycle time, while increasing operator efficiency and ergonomics

Evansville, Indiana – Evana Automation Specialists, a leading Systems Integrator and builder of custom, automated assembly and test systems, recently shipped a hub assembly cell for keyless entry remotes to a leading Tier 1 automotive supplier. The Evana solution will improve part reliability and cycle time, while increasing operator efficiency and ergonomics.

The hub assembly cell employs the use of two linear slides. Slide number one contains a verification station, press station, and laser etch station. The process begins when the operator loads a printed circuit board (PCB) and keyless remote housing into a part nest. The operator activates the system via a finger switch and the part nest automatically moves to the verification station where a vision camera verifies that the correct parts are in the nest before reporting the findings. If everything is correct, the part will automatically move to the press station where the PCB and housing are pressed together. Next, the part nest moves to the laser etch station where part information is laser etched onto the part. Upon completion, the part nest moves back to the verification station where it is inspected for correct part orientation and the results are reported. Successfully assembled parts return to the operator, who removes them and loads them into the part nest on slide number two.

Slide number two contains a verification station and screw station. With the part loaded into the part nest, the operator places a cover onto the keyless remote housing and activates the system via a finger switch. The part nest automatically moves to a verification station where a vision camera verifies that the correct cover has been placed on it and that it is the correct color before reporting the findings. If everything is correct, the part automatically moves to the screw station where the cover is automatically screwed to the housing. Once completed, the part nest moves back to the verification station where it is inspected for screw orientation and the results are reported. The operator removes successfully completed parts and the process repeats.

The cycle time for the hub assembly operation is 25 seconds, which includes manual loading and unloading.

"The Evana hub assembly cell adds production capacity and saves floor space," said Randy Wire, general manager of Evana Automation Specialists. "Most importantly, it improves operator efficiency and part reliability."
