FOCUS Enhancements Introduces Ultra Wideband Evaluation System

Featuring the Company's Leading Talaria UWB Technology, Evaluation Kits will Enable Manufacturers to Design and Validate Wireless Video Distribution and High-Speed Data Transfer Products in Home and Office Environments

Campbell, California- October 20, 2005 - FOCUS Enhancements, Inc. (NASDAQ CM: FCSE), today introduced the company's Talaria(TM) Ultra Wideband (UWB) Evaluation System for computer, mobile communications and consumer electronics companies designing next generation wireless audio/video products. The company is currently taking orders for evaluation kits, which are expected to be available around the end of 2005, and include all elements needed to test UWB radio performance in typical home and office user environments.

The company's UWB Evaluation System enables manufacturers to validate the performance of FOCUS Enhancements' UWB radio modules in real-world environments. Featuring its exclusive Talaria UWB technology, FOCUS Enhancements' radios are compatible with the WiMedia standard while exceeding the standard's overall performance. Talaria is expected to provide transmission rates up to 880 Mbps at ranges up to 8 meters and 37 Mbps at a range of 40 meters. Both specifications exceed existing published competitive capabilities.

"For UWB to become a viable technology in commercial markets, it must prove that it can work in a variety of commonly encountered environments," said Brett Moyer, FOCUS Enhancements' president and chief executive officer. "Our UWB Evaluation System will enable manufacturers to test and confirm that Talaria works in a wide range of physical environments and will demonstrate to developers and product managers real world delivery capabilities that outperform anything currently on the market or in development labs we have visited."

"Included within every Evaluation System is a Talaria mini-PCI UWB radio", said Tom Hamilton, executive vice president and general manager of FOCUS Enhancements' semiconductor group. "This radio module is actually a reference design that customers can start to use immediately to pursue UWB implementation in products and designs they already have in the works. Our team will not only assist customers with the evaluation of our UWB wireless solution, but can help with the implementation of UWB technology to assure rapid time-to-market."

FOCUS Enhancements' UWB Evaluation System
FOCUS Enhancements' Evaluation System is easy to install and configure. Users can direct video or data using the Web-based interface from a selection of sources to the FOCUS UWB radio for wireless transmission. The Evaluation System contains two PCI slots, which house a mini-PCI Talaria UWB radio module and a FOCUS Enhancements Gemini MPEG decoder card. The integrated Gemini MPEG decoder card enables testers to render a compressed media stream in either standard definition (SD) or high definition (HD) video formats. Video outputs include IEEE-1394, component video, composite video, VGA and DVI. Audio outputs include 2-channel audio-out and S-PDIF.

The Web-based interface includes radio set-up, monitoring and control tools, enabling users to fully evaluate FOCUS Enhancements' UWB radio and its exclusive Talaria UWB technology. The UWB radio can be configured and managed through the evaluation unit's user interface (UI), which provides the user with tools to control data input and output. Users can configure the radio to operate in standard WiMedia mode, FOCUS high-performance mode or to dynamically switch between the two. This allows users to test multiple combinations of media access controller (MAC) modes and PHY rates. The UWB Evaluation System provides detailed statistics including various throughput measures, error rates, signal quality and others to help monitor and evaluate UWB radio performance. It can also display additional details including net effective rate, throughput (physical rate) and packet error percentage.

About Talaria UWB Technology
Talaria is a total UWB wireless solution. Talaria UWB technology provides interoperability with the WiMedia UWB Standard and the Wireless USB (Certified by the USB-IF) implementation of WiMedia UWB technology. It also uses both WiMedia MB-OFDM and the company's DS-OFDM(TM) modulation techniques. With DS-OFDM modulation, Talaria generates more densely packed signals that cover a wider segment of the available UWB spectrum. This means that FOCUS Enhancements' UWB radios provide a more robust link that transfers data at faster rates over longer distances, making Talaria ideal for high-speed wireless and video applications throughout a home or small office. Talaria provides the user with an intelligent wireless solution which works with all standard UWB products and provides additional performance for media applications and very high-speed data transfers required by most modern digital media files, including audio, photos and video.
