Original Press Release:

Powerful new Evaluation Platform for FlexRay Implementations

Ratingen, Germany, VIENNA, Austria, - Month XX, 2005 - A new evaluation platform for Renesas Technology's FlexRay implementations is now available. Based on the M32C MCU series by Renesas, the board enables the user not only to evaluate FlexRay, but also to gain valuable experience with FlexRay applications.

The DECOMSYS::NODE< RENESAS > comes with basic system software including a FlexRay driver to evaluate basic features of FlexRay in regard of the Renesas implementation of the Bosch E-Ray IP. Three small demo programs facilitate the handling of FlexRay in standard situations. These demos are supplied in source code and can be modified according to requirements. The versatile FlexRay driver DECOMSYS::COMMSTACK is supplied as an object code module. By means of DECOMSYS::DESIGNER, it is also possible to change the given bus configuration. An upgrade path to series production operating systems as well as full design and configuration tool support facilitates more advanced applications. On-chip debugging of communication and application software is also conveniently possible.

At the core of the DECOMSYS::NODE< RENESAS > is the Renesas M32C/85 MCU with 24 MHz and an on-board Altera Cyclone II FPGA which houses the BOSCH E-Ray FlexRay controller. The board is equipped with 2 MB RAM and 2 MB Flash as well as two FlexRay channels, two high-speed CAN, one LIN interface, one RS232 interface, 24 digital I/Os, eight analog in, two analog out. Low-cost hardware debugging possibilities are available.

Accepted as a leading edge supplier to the automotive industry, Renesas Technology Corp. is committed to provide and support complete FlexRay system solutions, such as integrated FlexRay controller, bus drivers and development platforms in order to give customers most flexibility to build and test their applications.

"FlexRay is a very advanced automotive communication system. The DECOMSYS::NODE< RENESAS > eases the start with this new technology, giving the developer everything he needs in order to experiment with a FlexRay network, to modify the demos, and to learn how to handle FlexRay in standard situations", says Dietmar Millinger, CTO of DECOMSYS.
