EU PVSEC 2010: Montech Offers Innovative Transport and Handling Solutions

(Derendingen) At EU PVSEC in Valencia from 6 to 9 September, Montech AG is introducing several new products. At its stand C6 in Hall 2/Level 2, the Swiss company will showcase several novelties, including a new vacuum conveyor to carry wafers at a speed of 2 meters per second, essential to increase plant productivity. Montech will also exhibit new solutions to convey modules and carriers and its full range of belt conveyors for the solar industry:

"At EU PVSEC Montech will present the latest news for transport and handling," anticipates Gianluca Aloisi, Director Sales, Montech AG. "Like all our solutions, the new products are manufactured with high quality materials that meet the requirements of continuous operation in heavy-duty conditions. With the high quality and innovative features of its solutions, Montech aims at consolidating its leadership in conveyor technology."

New vacuum conveyor

To handle wafers, Montech has developed a new vacuum belt, an overhead conveyor that carries wafers at a speed of two meters per second. The new conveyor can handle large quantities of wafers simultaneously. "Conventional handling and transport solutions require an unproductive return track. Montech's vacuum conveyor has no return, thus helping increase productivity in wafer production," says Aloisi. The conveyor is also more cost effective and, compared to other systems, offers the additional benefit of compact dimensions, according to Aloisi.

Transport solutions for modules and carriers

Further news for carrier transport includes the application of a transfer system. With this system, according to the assembly sequence, the carriers are conveyed automatically from one belt to another all along the necessary working stations. The carriers are mounted on standard workpiece holders made of high-strength plastic (PET).

For smooth transport of thin film modules and panels between different processing stations, Montech offers a conveyor with two, three or four lanes with toothed belts. The conveyor is available with two different drives with spur gear motor and accurately defined acceleration and braking curves.

Specific conveyors for the solar industry

Other solutions developed by Montech specifically for the production needs of the photovoltaic industry, include the solar conveyor, the unloading conveyor, the removal module, the swiveling conveyor, the centering conveyor for accurate wafer alignment during transport and the short conveyor to check wafer edges.

The solar conveyor can be used as feeding and discharge belt or to link different manufacturing lines. The removal module allows rotating wafers and cells by 90 degrees thanks to its vertical motion capability. Finally, the swiveling conveyor allows discarding defective parts from the line without slowing down the production.

Montech AG

Montech AG markets basic modular components that automate demanding production and logistics processes. In addition to conventional conveyor belts, automation components and the Quick-Set profile system, the range of products also includes the Montrac transport system. Montrac is an intelligent transport system for networking industrial production and logistics processes. Founded in 1963, the company is based in Switzerland and stands for innovation in the automation industry.
