NI FieldPoint Distributed I/O Ethernet Module Tolerates Harsh Industrial Environments

AUSTIN, Texas - Sept. 17, 2002 - Engineers and scientists now can decrease power consumption and lower temperature-induced errors with the National Instruments FP-1601 next-generation distributed I/O Ethernet module. The FP-1601 communication module connects FieldPoint I/O to a PC controller using standard l0BaseT/l00BaseTX Ethernet for measurement and control applications in harsh industrial environments.

This next-generation module expands the capabilities of the FP- 1600 Ethernet module by tolerating greater amounts of electromagnetic interference (EMI), offering increased functionality in noisy environments. The FP-1601 also decreases power consumption and radiates less heat, which helps eliminate temperature-induced errors on nearby thermocouple modules. With extended temperature ranges from -20°C to 55°C, the FP-1601 has the same industrial temperature ratings as the FP-2000 real-time control module. With front-mounted DIP switches on the FP-1601 module, engineers and scientists now can quickly reset node IP addresses and input program changes.

Engineers and scientists can use this Ethernet communication module as a flexible networked I/O connection for a PC running NI LabVIEW. Engineers and scientists also can network this new module to the FP-2000 module, which works with LabVIEW Real-Time for programming embedded measurement and control applications. With National Instruments FieldPoint distributed I/O, users can easily integrate software and hardware to meet changing application needs resulting in lower system cost and easier configuration. The FieldPoint networked architecture and compact, rugged packaging enhance connectivity, reduce cost, and improve data throughput.

National Instruments FieldPoint integrates with popular application development environments, including NI LabVIEW, NI Measurement Studio for Visual Studio, Microsoft Visual C++, and Microsoft Visual Basic.
