Equinix Announces Nationwide Rollout of 10 Gigabit Ethernet Exchange Service

Scalability and Reliability of Equinix Exchange Service Enhanced as More Companies Move their Network and Content Peering Operations to Equinix Hubs

Foster City, CA - July 12, 2005 - Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced it will roll out 10 Gigabit Ethernet capabilities on the company's Equinix Exchange service in Washington D.C., Silicon Valley, Chicago and New York by the end of 2005. The 10 Gigabit Ethernet enhancement enables networks, content companies, and content delivery networks using the service to increase their network data exchange capacity by a factor of ten. This enhancement, which includes the addition of 10 Gigabit Ethernet switching capabilities, comes in response to strong demand for Equinix's network and content peering service, for which annual revenue grew by more than 50 percent in 2004. The initial customers migrating to the new service will be Limelight Networks, Time Warner Telecom, and nLayer.

Equinix Exchange facilitates ISP and content peering among Equinix customers through a central switching fabric and has become a strategic element in the increasingly important peering infrastructure of many ISPs, content companies, and content distributors. The service reduces transit costs for Internet companies operating within Equinix's Internet Business Exchange(TM) (IBX®) centers by directly connecting to each other and thus eliminating intermediate network backbones. This streamlined connectivity between ISPs and content providers enhances performance and reliability and provides a more robust end-user experience.

The service is enabled by Force10 Networks' TeraScale E-Series switch/routers which provide three key benefits for Equinix Exchange customers: increased capacity, carrier-class stability, and new features. Increased capacity is provided via 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports and high-density Gigabit Ethernet ports. This 10-fold increase of network capacity for Equinix Exchange enables network service providers and content companies to manage continued strong traffic growth driven by broadband adoption and new Internet usage trends. Carrier-class stability is enabled by a high availability switch architecture that allows Equinix to meet stringent carrier uptime requirements at high traffic volumes. New features allow Equinix to provide more scalable and flexible product, including the ability to utilize advanced quality of service features while ensuring full port speed.

Equinix is the peering leader in the U.S., serving the world's leading ISPs, broadband providers, international networks and major content providers. Equinix Exchange currently has more than 140 customers, including Yahoo!, Google, Cox Communications, British Telecom, eBay, Japan Telecom, SBC Internet Services, Electronic Arts, Verio and others.

Equinix Exchange is currently available in Equinix's U.S. IBX centers located in the greater New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, and Silicon Valley areas, and in Equinix's Asia-Pacific region IBX centers in Sydney, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo, Japan.

"Equinix Exchange has become a critical element to the infrastructure supporting our strategic peering relationships, and the migration to a 10 Gigabit platform is a base requirement for us going forward in order to support the rapid growth of our content delivery business," said Nathan Raciborski, chief network architect of Limelight Networks. "We look forward to moving to Equinix's new 10 Gigabit platform in all four IBX centers."

"As peering relationships have become the fundamental means by which all Internet traffic, from email to video, is interchanged between networks, Equinix is committed to providing the most high-performance platform of traffic exchange services," said Jay Adelson founder and CTO of Equinix. "After more than a year of testing the stability, scalability and reliability of options, we are introducing 10 Gigabit capacity that will enable Equinix customers to further leverage the performance enhancements and cost reductions of scalable peering, while solidifying Equinix's position as the premiere provider of peering and network exchange services."
