Metrobility Releases Out-of-Franchise Carrier Ethernet Demarcation Device
Enables visibility into the first mile to verify services across multi-provider networks
Merrimack, NH -June 5, 2006-Metrobility Optical Systems, the pioneer in optical Ethernet demarcation solutions for the deployment of carrier Ethernet services, today announced that a new copper-based Ethernet demarcation device that enables service providers to monitor and manage services at the customer premise when those services are being delivered across another carrier's network.
The R821-11 Services Line Card is a customer-located, copper-to-copper 10/100Mbps Ethernet demarcation device that allows service providers to monitor services being delivered to their customers when the first mile is leased from another carrier. The R821-11 enables the out-of-franchise provider to determine the quality of service being delivered to his customer in order to verify service level agreements.
Using Metrobility's Logical Services Loopback, traffic can be monitored and measured to determine connectivity and link integrity. A copper line quality test can also be initiated to determine and identify problems in either of the copper-based connections.
"The hand-off of services to a customer is generally a black hole to the off-network provider," stated Manu Kaycee, vice president of product strategy for Metrobility. "With the R821-11, that provider can now determine if the problem lies at the customer's network or the carrier's network. Problems can be rectified much more quickly and cost effectively, especially where stringent SLAs require accountability that often involves not only payment refund but expensive truck rolls."
