IBM 2-Port Gigabit Ethernet PCI-X Adapters Expand IBM eserver pSeries and RS/6000 Systems Connectivity
Overview
New PCI-X adapters expand the network connectivity options for IBM eserver pSeries(TM) and selected RS/6000® systems.
IBM 2-Port 10/100/1000 Base-TX Ethernet PCI-X Adapter
This full-duplex, dual ported, Gigabit Ethernet adapter can be configured to run each port at 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps data rates. The adapter conforms to the IEEE 802.3ab 1000Base-T standard, which defines Gigabit Ethernet operation over distances up to 100 meters using four pairs of CAT-5 balanced copper cabling -the type of cabling within most buildings.
Performance can be improved using these features:
o Jumbo frames (at 1000 Mbps speed), which can deliver a significant increase in throughput with a significant decrease in CPU utilization
o Large Send, which offloads the TCP segmentation operation from
the AIX IP layer to the adapter for outgoing TCP segments
o Checksum Offload, which offloads the TCP/UDP checksum operation or workload from the CPU to the adapter
IBM 2-Port Gigabit Ethernet-SX PCI-X Adapter
This adapter offers two 1 Gbps (1000 Base-SX) full-duplex Ethernet LAN connections with throughput on a standard shortwave multimode optical cable that conforms to the IEEE 802.3z standard. This adapter also improves performance with the same jumbo frames and Large Send features as for the Base-TX Ethernet PCI-X Adapter.
