Escambia Operating Company Chooses Americon for Energy Operations Center Upgrade
Camarillo, CA – Americon announces the recent completion of the Escambia Operating Company operations center upgrade that included control room design, layout and custom console manufacturing. This project, located in Alabama for Eagle Rock Energy, was a control room design challenge because the consoles had to be designed, manufactured and configured in a way that would allow the operators to monitor both new and old systems at the same time as they transitioned from 1960 technology. This meant that this 30' long totally custom console had to be designed for new hardware that allowed the operator to move freely around the room to operate older console systems that would be on-line for an indefinite period.
This large control room console has adjustable monitor arms for 16 monitors positioned in a manner so that a single operator can see all of the displays from one vantage point. Since the control room is not on raised floor, the control room design became a cooperative effort between the owner and Americon. The new control room console was designed so that it acts as a conduit for the cables originating from two points in the concrete floor and traversing the console from two directions.
The control room design and configuration required exacting standards and attention to detail. The cooperative efforts between Americon and the owner made the process easier as they moved through multiple design iterations with each version moving closer to the owner's vision for the control room. The control room design included a console that could accommodate a host of new hardware in a relatively small footprint while ensuring adequate aisle space to move easily around the console to reach existing control panels that surround the room. The results exceeded the owner's expectations allowing the console to be put into operation schedule.
