OpenMFG Rolls Out Major Upgrade, Free ERP for Trade Show Winner
Configuration, Accounting Improvements, and International Tax Support Highlight 2.1 Release
ATLANTA, April 25 /-- DESIGN & MANUFACTURING SOUTH -- OpenMFG, the leading provider of open source-based enterprise solutions for small manufacturers and distributors, today announced version 2.1 of its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, the sixth major release of the product. Major enhancements include support for complex multi-level taxation schemes such as Value-Added Tax (VAT), light configuration of sales order items, and substantial improvements to accounting and financial reporting functionality. In all, the new version contains nearly 200 enhancements developed by OpenMFG and its community of partners and customers.
To celebrate the release of version 2.1, at the conclusion of this week's Design and Manufacturing South trade show, OpenMFG will select one lucky winner from visitors to its booth (#2804), to win a free license to the OpenMFG ERP Suite for one full year.
OpenMFG's flagship product is an advanced ERP software solution built with open source components, such as Qt, the Linux operating system, the PostgreSQL database, and the OpenRPT report writer. Available OpenMFG modules include Inventory Management, Product Definition and Costing, Work Order Management, Manufacturing and Scheduling, Capacity Planning, Purchase Order Management, Sales Order Management, Shipping and Receiving, Project Management, Sales Analysis, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, a full General Ledger, and Customer Relationship Management.
Under the company's innovative hybrid license, customers and partners have full access to the application source code, and any enhancements made to the product flow back to OpenMFG for review, quality testing, and possible incorporation into the baseline product.
According to Cambridge Magnetic Refrigeration, an OpenMFG power user in the United Kingdom, the new VAT support is the last remaining requirement for OpenMFG to compete directly with market-leading ERP packages outside of the U.S. Cambridge president Kurt Haselwimmer observed, "OpenMFG's implementation of VAT continues the company's tradition of delivering powerful, sophisticated business functionality behind a clean, simple interface. As a longtime Apple Mac user, I recognize that combination when I see it!"
OpenMFG's director of product development, John Rogelstad, along with OpenMFG solution provider Forefront Solutions, Inc., will be on hand to demonstrate the new 2.1 functionality at the Design & Manufacturing show. The winner of the free OpenMFG system will be selected at random from booth visitors on Thursday, April 26. Winners need not be present to win.
