Tnemec Introduces New Addition to Tank Armor Family of Products

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.,) – Tnemec Company, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-performance protective coatings, has introduced a 100 percent solids epoxy liner for use in transport tanks containing chemical blends or acids used in hydraulic fracturing, commonly referred to as fracking. Series 391 Tank Armor is a new chemical-resistant formulation developed by Tnemec and extensively tested for severe chemical immersion environments, according to Gary Zinn, Sales Director – Industrial Markets, for Tnemec.

“Series 391Tank Armor meets the requirements of customers in the oil and gas service industries, such as rapid return to service, one-coat application, fast-cure, high-build capabilities, ease of application and physical properties for long-term durability,” Zinn explained. “It also offers excellent corrosion protection against hydrochloric acid and selected chemical combinations, along with toluene and xylene blends, which may also be used for well service treatment.”

When spray applied in a single, high-build coat by plural component equipment, it is possible to conduct high-voltage holiday testing within hours of application, then repair any voids and return the tank or trailer to service, usually within 24 to 36 hours.

Series 391 contains no solvent, is volatile organic compound (VOC) compliant, and is abrasion-resistant. It is applied at 20 to 40 mils dry film thickness (DFT). Surface preparation for immersion service requires steel to be prepared in accordance with SSPC-SP5/NACE No. 1 White Metal Blast Cleaning with a minimum angular anchor profile of 3.0 mils for coating applications of 20.0 mils DFT or greater.

This product is Tnemec’s newest contribution to a long line of time-tested, thick-film epoxy linings formulated for vessels in the gas and oil industries. For information about other Tank Armor products and their capabilities, contact your local Tnemec coatings consultant.

In addition to its internal tank liners, Tnemec offers a range of external protection coatings for concrete and metal substrates in nearly any industrial environment.
