Versatile Epoxy Floor Coating from Valspar VOC Compliant in all Fifty States

WHEELING, IL, January 18, 2007 - Valspar Flooring, a division of Valspar, Inc. (NYSE: VAL), announced today it has voluntarily reduced the volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions of its EC-17 Ultra UVR Epoxy coating to comply with VOC regulations in all fifty states, including the most stringent in the country, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Rule 113.

"Today's move uniquely positions EC-17 as the epoxy floor coating of choice for Green building efforts," said Lysa Young, Marketing Manager, Valspar Flooring. "It is the latest demonstration of Valspar's commitment to introduce products that leap technology forward, while following our tradition of environmental responsibility in the process."

VERSATILE WITH UV PROTECTION
Exceptionally versatile, EC-17 can be utilized in industrial and decorative flooring applications, serving as a stand-alone coating (clear or pigmented), a system topcoat, a quartz system grout coat, or a binder in a slurry system. It adds high-gloss appearance, while providing long-lasting protection against dusting, chalking and yellowing.

EC-17 is a water-clear, 100% solids epoxy coating with superior UV stability that safeguards flooring from discoloration, yellowing and fading due to exposure to sunlight or indoor fluorescent lighting. Any flooring subjected to damaging UV rays, including manufacturing plants, health care clinics, transportation areas, and commercial venues, will benefit from EC-17 Ultra UVR Epoxy.

"Although epoxy is clearly an excellent medium for the application of decorative troweled or broadcast quartz floor systems, over time UV exposure can give it an amber hue. The discoloration could make the floor appear dirty and not true to its original color scheme," explained Lisa Szczupaj, Laboratory Manager, Valspar Flooring. "EC-17 uses advanced polymer chemistry to deliver a UV-resistant, color-stable option in epoxy-based quartz flooring."

In addition to its inherent attributes as a UV-resistant coating, EC-17 Ultra UVR Epoxy is further differentiated from conventional epoxies by its outstanding chemical resistance, and low viscosity for improved application properties.

Crystal-clear EC-17 can be applied in a variation of 5 to 10 mils and is available in convenient, pre-proportioned 2.52-gallon kits to facilitate easier installation. A mixed gallon provides coverage of approximately 160-320 square feet.
