Original Press Release:

VersaLogic Komodo High-performance EPIC-sized SBC Features Intel Core 2 Duo and SUMIT Connector Scheme

Boston, Massachusetts - Sept. 22, 2009 - At the Embedded Systems Conference today VersaLogic Corp., a Eugene, Oregon-based manufacturer of embedded computer products, introduced the "Komodo", the embedded industry's highest performing EPIC(TM)-sized single board computer (SBC). Running on the new Intel® Core(TM)2 Duo (model P8400) 45nm processor, the Komodo performs at an impressive 2.27 GHz-with mid-range power consumption. Komodo also deploys the new Stackable Unified Module Interconnect Technology (SUMIT) interface, making this SBC an ideal solution for OEM designers in demanding defense, aerospace, and medical markets.

"VersaLogic is very excited to release the Komodo, with Intel's newest high-performance Core 2 Duo processor, designed specifically for embedded applications. This EPIC-sized SBC features the recently defined SUMIT expansion interface, while also providing backward compatibility with ISA connectors," said Len Crane, VersaLogic's President. "This product underscores VersaLogic's commitment to provide the best performance and latest technology, while continuing to support our customers' legacy interface requirements."

Komodo fits the industry standard EPIC footprint of 4.5 x 6.5 inches and is one of the first EPIC-sized products to feature the SUMIT expansion scheme developed by the Small Form Factor Special Interest Group (SFF-SIG). The SUMIT interface supports a variety of expansion options, including up to three PCIe x1, four USB, an SPI, and an LPC connector. Standard on-board features include gigabit Ethernet, up to four GB DDR3 memory, four USB 2.0 ports, two SATA interfaces, two RS-232 COM Ports, two RS-232/422/485 COM ports; PS/2 keyboard and mouse, HD audio, as well as dual LVDS and analog VGA support.

Featuring the new SiliconDrive II® Blade drive, a rugged, removable, solid-state drive (SSD), and the robust SiliconBlade(TM) Socket, which together comprise the SFF-SIG's SiliconDrive II Blade specification; the Komodo offers versatile expansion and application storage. External storage options and other devices are provided via USB, making the Komodo an extremely flexible choice for even the most demanding embedded computing applications.

Komodo is available in an extended temperature version and is fully MIL-STD-202G designed, tested, and compliant for rugged applications.

As with other VersaLogic embedded computer products, the Komodo features Phoenix Technologies' Embedded BIOS® with OEM enhancements. The field-reprogrammable BIOS supports custom defaults and the Firmbase(TM) software developers kit (SDK) for security, remote booting, and other application functions. Fully RoHS-compliant, Komodo is compatible with a variety of popular operating systems, including Windows, Windows Embedded, Linux, VxWorks, QNX and others.

The Komodo is customizable, even in low OEM quantities. Options include conformal coating, BIOS customization, revision locks, custom labeling, high-G shock and vibration treatment, and custom testing and screening.

VersaLogic will begin shipping Komodo in October of 2009. About the SFF-SIG

The Small Form Factor Special Interest Group (SFF-SIG) is an independent non-profit industry group that develops, promotes, and supports small form factor circuit board, I/O, and storage specifications with long-term stability in mind. The group embraces the latest technologies, but also has a philosophy of maintaining legacy compatibility and enabling smooth transitions to next-generation interfaces. For example, the SFF-SIG is the only industry group with an entire family of form factor specifications with bus expansion optimized for the new sub-10W 2-chip x86 platforms including Intel's Atom(TM) and VIA's Nano(TM) CPUs. The interconnect technologies, SUMIT(TM), COMIT(TM), and MiniBlade(TM) connect easily to high- and low-speed modular I/O, and board designs are already underway.
